Obviously movie critics are out of touch when they consistently rate movies which subsequently earn hundreds of millions at the box office, poorly.

It must be strictly only for 12 year old boys because my 14 year old boy hated it. He's still trying to forgive his mates for dragging him along to see it.

I'm all for a Department of Education case against Michael Bay for wanton destruction of property.

And The Rock wasn't that good, it just had good actors.

I remember someone once said that Joel Schumacher was a terrible filmmaker, but that with a good script and actors, sometimes a good film would result in spite of his presence (Falling Down).

I think it's the same with Bay. The Rock was excellent, but the script was relatively strong (it's no Die Hard) and the cast was great.

And for anyone looking for a genuine WTF moment, the Criterion Collection, heretofore known as a supplier of cinema at its finest, has Bay films in its catalogue:

As a kid I was an avid fan of the early 80s Saturday morning cartoon and a diehard collector of the corresponding toylines. My verdict? This film was t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e.
Putting the countless legitmate criticisms aside, how the crap is it possible to make a worthwhile film based upon any cartoon which acts as nothing more than a merchandising tool for a line of toys? Considering the generic formats of these cartoons - bad guys do bad things, good guys beat bad guys, bad guys slink off til next episiode - I would argue it to be impossible. I mean, which other merchandising cartoons have actually worked as a movie? Inspector Gadget? No. He-Man (with Dolf Lungren)? No. Upcoming GI Joe flick? No chance.

It might be trash (I haven't seen it and am unlikely to) but given that it has (according to boxofficemojo.com) raked in nearly US$420 million worldwide in the week since it was released I think we'll be seeing a lot more Michael Bay blockbusters in the future if he so chooses.
