Poster Watch: I Am Love

I Am LoveCheck out the striking use of pink in this elegant but bold one-sheet (left, click to enlarge) for director Luca Guadagnino’s acclaimed drama I Am Love.

The film stars Tilda Swinton, whose frosty glares and phlegmatic performance style have made her one of cinema’s most commanding ice queens. How appropriate that she played the White Witch in the Narnia movies.

I dig the way this poster demands attention. Our eyes are immediately drawn to the glow-stick pink, our attention alternating between the title, the stars and the “only in cinemas” caption before our brains can absorb the rest of the image.

The poster depicts six well dressed people – three men and three women – in a rather ornate looking room with a glistening glass chandelier, a dainty portrait and smick retro furniture.

Rotten Tomatoes describes the film as “a tragic love story set at the turn of the millennium in Milan” which “follows the fall of the haute bourgeoisie due to the forces of passion and unconditional love.”

If you think it sounds like a wankfest, the trailer (watch it below) ain’t gonna change your mind. Still, that poster is pretty special.

I Am Love opens in Australia late June.

The poster does scream Art-house wank fest. But it screams it very well!

No wank to be found. Saw it at the MoMA while I was overseas. Best film I’ve seen all year, hands down. If anything trumps it before 2011, 2010 shall have been grand indeed.
