Josh Fox, Gasland, fracking and the natural gas debate in Australia

On Saturday I attended a screening of Josh Fox’s excellent documentary Gasland (released this Thursday in cinemas), a shocking expose about natural gas mining in America – particularly the process of “fracking” – and its potentially disasterous effects on people and the environment.
Following the screening there was an terrific Q&A panel discussion between Fox, Friends of the Earth’s Campaign Coordinator Cam Walker, Dr Shane Huntington from Triple R and The Greens’ newly elected Adam Bandt, Federal Member for Melbourne. Both Fox and Bandt said they were happy to speak with me about the film but the discussion provided more than enough material for a story.
I wrote a piece about Gasland, the issues it raises and natural gas production in Australia for yesterday’s Crikey newsletter and our environmental blog Rooted. Click here to read it.

I was sick by the time I finished watching this film and understanding precisely that our pathetic tossers in our parliament want to do this to Australia.
It must be stopped by hook or by crook.
