News Limited softly softly redundancies across the board

Since I wrote this piece earlier in the week about softly-softly redundancies at News Limited, I have heard of three confirmed cases of Herald Sun editorial staff taking redundancy packages. News Limited might not be making a noise about it, but they are cutting the journalism. Which should surprise nobody.

Unlike most industries, newspapers simply won’t come back from the current economic downturn. Whatever level they reach through the downturn will be the level they stay at – or more likely dip below. The problems with the business model were already there. The downturn will simply further expose those problems.

But its not all doom and gloom. Will write soon about exciting new publications emerging.

Quite correct, no noise is being made public on the matter. I can confirm that the Herald Sun is asking for voluntary redundancy packages and are merging areas together.
