A Perspective on Brian McCarthy

An interesting perspective on likely new Fairfax CEO Brian McCarthy, from the editor of the Border Watch, and former Rural Press employee Michael Gorey, who writes that after a period away from Rural, he reapplied for jobs in Bendigo and Ballarat only to be told:

“The manager there was honest enough to tell me I could not be employed again by Rural Press because McCarthy had blacklisted me! No explanation was given.

“I don’t know for certain, but it’s almost certainly because I was involved (briefly) with an enterprise which competed against a Rural Press masthead. Either that, or my efforts to expose poor management practices were seen as unwelcome agitation.

“Either way, it soured my impression of McCarthy; summary executioner without trial”

There seems to be an awful lot of Fairfax bashing going on at the moment particularly about specific staff and multitude of statements being thrashed about on why Fairfax are doing so badly. It would be nice to actually hear from someone with a strong view on how this company could ‘regenerate’ itself.
