More sad news in our industry. A couple of years ago Ninemsn stood out for me because it seemed to be recruiting and training promising young journalists at a time when the other mainstream media were cutting back on their training responsibilities.
Well, today the announcement came that Ninemsn is making 15 staff redundant – almost four per cent of its 400 strong work force. It seems from today’s reports that none of them are journalists, but the position is hardly comfortable, and means that online is not immune from the pervasive Big Media gloom.
The company issued a statement masterful in its opaqueness, talking about “de-emphasis and integration” of areas of the business – without specifying exactly what they were planning to do.
Same sad story, I’m afraid,, however you dress it up.
