Is it just me, or has the ABC Media Watch program improved this year? I don’t think they’ve had a dud so far. Whereas last year I felt the scripts were sometimes a bit long and flabby – as though there wasn’t really enough content to fill the time – this year one feels they could go on longer, and every week they have hit where it hurts. What do other people think?

Hi Margaret,
I agree – Media Watch has been excellent, compelling viewing – everything that ABC National’s Media Report, towards the end, was not.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
agree too. Good stories and a snappier pace are helping, but I think the improvement is mainly down to Jonathan Holmes.
He is starting to really feel at home in the presenter’s chair. When he gets that glint in his eye, it looks like he is having far more fun than is healthy!
I think part of the difference is due to Holmes taking a strong stance on things. A few times this year he’s been quite scathing in his criticism. What he’s realised, I think, is you simply can’t DO a show like that without having very strong opinions on what is right and wrong. Independent, impartial ABC or not.
I still miss Stuart Littlemore, but yes. It has been coming back to form of late.
Still mandatory watching for any but the most credulous TV viewer.
There’s no question Media Watch has stepped up this year. But in my opinion, it had a long way to step up from. I’m still disappointed to some extent – many of the reports remain pretty stock standard wrist slapping exercises.
I find it hard to go past the hard hitting stuff that David Marr seemed to produce every week. Those were the days …
What would be needed to have it extended to a half hour? There’s no derth of abuses requiring scrutiny, even as the fish wrappers die of their own irrelevance.
