The Press Council Gets Back – News Limited to be Approached
Ms Margaret Simons
The Council has received your letter of March 18 in which you and Jonathan Green raise a concern with material published in the Sunday Telegraph and other News Limited Sunday newspapers.
For your information, a copy of the Council’s principles and practices can be found on the Council’s website, http://www.presscouncil.org.au. Therein are set out the standards of journalistic ethics that the Council upholds and the procedures it uses to deal with complaints alleging breaches of those standards.
I note that while your complaint touches on the Privacy Standards, it is largely based on breaches of the Principles. I will accept the matter for processing and take up your complaint by writing to the newspaper, seeking its response to the matters you have raised. On receipt of the newspaper’s comments on the complaint, I will pass them along to you and you can decide what, if any, further action you want to take.
In the meantime I would appreciate your completing the complaint form found on the website (http://www.presscouncil.org.au/pcsite/complaints/compform.html). This is a formality that enables the Council better to understand a complaint.
I will be in touch again when I have heard from the newspaper.
