Yesterday I had a story in the Crikey email on how Fairfax Media/Rural Press looks from the perspective of its country and regional newspapers in New South Wales. I have had a fair bit of response, both on the Crikey site and in my email inbox. Some more stories may result in the next few days.
But in the meantime, looking through yesterday’s Albury-Wodonga based Border Mail, I found a rather delicious clarification. It seems that last Saturday, the paper ran a story about Family First Senator Steve Fielding’s role in defeating legislation that would have increased export costs for the local Game Meats Company abattoir. The story apparently caused some angst. The clarification reads:
“The Game Meats Company at Myrtelford is a halal-accredited organisation which processes only goats, emus, ostriches and deer…At no stage did export operations manager Rick Cavedon say Senator Fielding had ’saved our bacon’.

That Border Mail clarification made me LOL (as I believe the youngsters type nowadays).
