Where arrrrr the pirates? This Google maps mash-up shows all the hot spots for piracy over the last year — not of the burning your friend’s DVDs kind, mind, but rather the eye-patches, peg legs and pillaging variety.

Hip hangouts in Baghdad. Even Baghdad has hipsters, and the cool cats there like to hang out on Akkad Street. With increased violence and danger, Iraqis are less keen to leave their neighbourhoods, and the main markets are being replaced by these more local hangouts.

WoW overkill. A 15-year-old Swedish boy collapsed  after playing the online game World of Warcraft for 24 hours straight. The boy began having convulsions after playing for the day straight without sleep or food.

Hirst says art costs too much. Artist Damien Hirst thinks his art is overpriced and welcomes the economic downturn as a way to lower the price. “Four years ago, you could buy something for £50,000. If we went back to that, it’s not such a problem,” he told the Independent.

Chairs to the Thonet. The Herald Tribune celebrates the Thonet Model No. 14 chair, which is said to have seated more people than any other chair in history.

Nothing has changed in North Korea. Obama’s win probably won’t change much for North Korea, writes The Atlantic. “To hope that a new administration in Washington can build trust with the North Koreans where their most sympathetic blood-brethren have so abjectly failed would be to take American exceptionalism to a new extreme.”

This is GOOP. It sure is. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s new site, GOOP, encourages readers to ‘nourish the inner spirit’ and features insights from the Gwynsect like “I love being in spaces that are clean and feel nice”. We… don’t get it.
