Stuff we like: artists rolling in their graves

Crikey intern Michael Griffiths brings you today’s talk of the towns.

Rolling in his grave. Antoni Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, Barcelona architectural icon, is famous for two things: being a masterpiece and being unfinished. Now, 125 years after building began, a group of Spanish intellectuals are saying it looks crap and has betrayed Gaudi’s vision (sort of like the extensions to the Sydney rail network, in a way). Will it ever be finished? Only if Spanish bureaucracy says so…

Rolling in his grave #2. Artist Francis Bacon told a barman that he wanted to be put into a plastic bag and thrown into the gutter when he died. Well, his artist friend Catherine Shakespeare Lane decided to do something about that. Check out the slightly creepy results at The Guardian.

Some people just have dirty minds. If you look at this picture and see anything but the love of Jesus then so do you. The cheeky Stephen Fry took the snaps, with the words “looks a if this church window needs replacing”.

Wine wankers. Ever wondered how the experts pick from wine lists at fancy restaurants? Hint: they don’t just choose the second cheapest bottle. There’s a whole artform to “reading” a wine list, and those who unlock the secrets will reveal no less than a window to the restaurant’s soul. Table Matters tells.

Iceland melting. From the serious corner, this excellent map from The Atlantic shows an illustrated timeline of the destruction of Iceland’s economy, in 10 simple steps. There is a cute little picture of Santa on it though. Read and learn.
