Crikey’s pick of the web for today:
Apple apples. A Japanese Apple (as in the computer company) fan has been growing apples (as in the fruit) with Apple (as in the company) logos on them. Cute, if a little pointless, but not dissimilar from Hello Kitty toast.
How the rich shop. If you’ve got it, don’t flaunt it: this is apparently the new mantra for rich shoppers, who are eschewing logoed shopping bags from stores like Hermès for plain white ones. Apparently conspicuous consumption doesn’t go well with a financial crisis.
Lovely Christmas message from Westboro Baptist Church. Mmmm, nothing warms the cockles like a Christmas song: Santa Claus will take you to hell (possibly not safe for work).
Face to face with the Taliban. The Guardian interviews members of the Taliban amidst the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan.
Growing up Hitler. Life’s tough when your parents name you ‘Adolf Hitler’: “A local supermarket refused to make a birthday cake with “Adolf Hitler” on it. The ShopRite in Greenwich Township has also refused to make a cake bearing the name of Campbell’s daughter, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, who turns 2 in February.”
