Crikey reported last week on the broadside delivered by Labor doyen and still-serving speechwriter Bob Ellis at the launch of the latest issue of the literary journal Overland.

The title of the speech, “Kevin Rudd’s muscular timidity”, was eschewed in favour of a wide-ranging spray at former and serving ALP identities, including climate change minister Penny Wong, whom Ellis described as the “lesbian Chinese bureaucrat Rudd wishes he was”.
