A drawing a day: Vue de Shannon

The drawing: Decadence and the fine art of fine dining — Shannon Bennett’s Vue de Monde

“There’s an awful lot of crap here.” — Shannon Bennett at the Melbourne Art Fair, August 2012

‘[Gallerist Anna] Schwartz introduced Bennett to the work of many in her stable, including conceptual artist Joseph Kosuth whose neon work is the artistic crux of Vue de Monde. Kosuth’s piece represents Charles Darwin’s early sketches as refracted through the ponderings of the philosopher Nietzche. “It’s highly intellectual and very subtle as well as visual but Shannon immediately embraced the philosophies,” says Schwartz.’ — From the (melbourne) magazine, The Age, Oct. 2012

‘Bam! The private dining room experience just racheted up several notches with the unveiling of Vue de Monde’s private Dom Perignon Room last week … with views from the 55th floor of The Rialto … and has an evolving menu matched to Dom Perignon Blanc, Rosé and Oenotheque. In keeping with Vue’s ethos of combining luxury and sustainability, Joost Bakker of By Joost was commissioned to create an installation of natural materials. The candles, made in the shape of Dom Perignon bottles, are 100 per cent beeswax, and each Tiller chair, designed by Ross Didier, is covered in kangaroo skin.’ — From epicure, The Age, 2 Oct. 2012 (Bold type sic)
