A drawing a day: My Bloody Valentine, at last
The drawing: a lovesick bloody valentine for My Bloody Valentine.
“It set a new standard for pop … If Steve Reich or Glenn Branca had been responsible for it, they would have been given an award by the classical music establishment.” — Brian Eno, in a lecture at MoMA
“Loveless is all highlights. I’ve heard many thousands of albums in my life and it’s one of the few that strikes me as being essentially perfect.” — Pitchfork
“Let me introduce you to Loveless by the enigmatic Irish group My Bloody Valentine, the greatest guitar-rock album of our greatness-averse age.” — Grantland
Yes, My Bloody Valentine are coming to town, 21 years after they brought Loveless, that vast warm bath of post-industrial womb music, an album of loud, dissonant, supremely beautiful noise.
Tickets (for Melbourne) for the February ’13 show go on sale today; I’m looking forward to the immersion.
