No.1 Superhits! (week ending 15 August 2011)

Relive the days when you used to care who was number 1 in the singles chart each week here at earworm where the Australian and one other random country’s best-selling song (this week: Norway) is aired.

Australia #1: Gotye (featuring Kimbra) ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’

Adele’s seven-week reign at number 1 is over with her song for an ex-lover, Someone Like You, finally toppled by Australian indie singer-songwriter Gotye‘s (aka Wally De Backer) song for an ex-lover, Somebody That I Used To Know. New Zealand singer Kimbra (shouldn’t it be Kim, bro?…) lends a little help and the Peter Gabriel revival gains momentum…

Norway #1: Herborg Kråkevik Til Ungdommen’

1936 poem Til Ungdommen (translation: For The Youth) sung by Norwegian actress/singer Herborg Kråkevik was aired at memorial services for the innocent victims of the 22 July terrorist atrocities. ‘War is contempt for life, Peace is creation.’
