Mexican blow-ins

It’s totally not a surprise that Kevin Rudd’s out and about on the campaign trail in his home state lending his lustre to Anna Bligh today (though less well known that the two leaders are personally close). But it is a bit odd that Joe Hockey will be launching The Borg’s re-election campaign in his seat of Southern Downs. Joe’s apparently here to lend some Howard government economic management cred to Lawrence (!) but maybe he’s also on a study tour to work out how well exactly raving about “Labor debt” goes down from opposition in the midst of a global crisis.

As I was saying at LP, if it doesn’t go down well against a tired and in many senses unsatisfactory set of fourth term incumbents, it probably won’t work against the popular first term Rudd government.

So there could be some interesting implications for the Federal Opposition’s economic strategy. Maybe they’ll flick the switch to “go for the most populist line and make it up as we go along, regardless of self-contradiction or relationship to reality”… Hang on, wait a sec…

Hockey apparently owns property in Queensland. I read something recently that the little girl attacked in that shocking gang rape last year was secreted there when the perpetrators were ineffectually dealt with by the Courts.

Marvellous, taa for Rudd Rescues Bligh link.
    Its report that

“research by the website Online Opinion suggests there has been a strong swing against the government in the first week. The swing, if reflected in the election result, would give Queensland a new government and a hung parliament.”

    is a real morale booster.

I think Mr Young’s qualitative research is of value – but his quantative research is of no value.

I agree – I don’t think Online Opinion research carries much weight.

In any case, the Labor = jobs line is a strong one, and in my view will carry the day on March 21.
