Firstdogonthemoon presents the Animal of the Day

The Longfinned Eel (Anguilla reinhardtii) and the Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua)

A GIANT ROGUE EEL has moved into a Queensland swimming hole and is sensibly biting everyone who wanders past. Go eel.

The beast from Gwongoorool Rock Pool at Binna Burra

There is not much more to tell, people who get in the water with the LURKING eel are finding themselves being bitten whereas people who do not get in the water remain suspiciously free of eel bites. Coincidence? Not sure. Perhaps it is something to do with being a Columbian English student. [White Supremacist Eel defends Aussie Pond against Unkempt Visa-Overstaying Backpackers]

But that’s not important right now….what is important is this, which is simply the best video I have ever seen on earth. I shan’t ruin the ending here, and I have strategically placed Penguin and Killer Whale photos below to stop your suspenseful penguin video viewing fun being ruined by my scintillating analysis which appears a bit further down.

Lets go kill the guy who put the techno music on the Penguin Video

Excuse me, are you the guy who put the techno music on that video?

Anyway, I love this video and I love the way penguin (who must be exhausted and freaked out) looks like it just going for a ride with some friends. “Hey, how about those Killer Whales out there not in this boat! Where are we going now, right away? I’ll just sit here on your leg shall I, my you’re lovely!” Here it is in its natural habitat which is a spanish website. I would love to be able to speak spanish. [Cowardly penguin steals food right from the mouths of starving whales]

Things you should know about the Gentoo Penguin and the Long Finned Eel:

  • Neither the Eel or the Penguin is a fish (except for the Eel)
  • No one has made an adorable video of an Eel escaping from a bunch of Killer Whales by jumping in a boat. (At least I couldn’t find on on Youtube so there isn’t one then).
  • When I was a lad I encountered an Eel at dawn one day as it crossed a dewy paddock near my gran’s farm. I never saw a penguin in this same paddock. Or any other paddock.

Finally, because there are not enough stupid pet videos in the world, here is one that proves finally, once and for all, that human civilisation has peaked! Stop now, there is no need to do any further work on our relationship with animals and the world around as evidenced by this video of a cat riding a vacuum cleaner.

Penguins are over rated. Eels are far more cuddly

Drat!! I *really* wanted to see if the cat on a vacuum cleaner could top the penguin.
Clearly utube are just being snarky and have pulled it. :(

Good on the Eel. His species was way before mankind. It’s about time the locals fauna struck back.
