Crikey

On this day in…. 2009 – The Liberal Leadership Board Game!

Welcome to First Dog’s Time Machine! On this day in 2009… Crikey ran this Liberal Leadership board game in the daily email. It’s not EVEN IN THE ARCHIVE – It was run in the email only, so it is has never been heard of since. It is like a little slice of perfectly preserved pristine political history. Hard to imagine today that the conservative side of politics were in such disarray that a satirical board game like this could be conceived let alone constructed, rigorously game tested, and then published to the millions of eager Crikey readers. And didn’t you all love it! Yes you did.  I remember how we even played this game in the Crikey offices, laughing and throwing things at our Eric Beecher dart board late into the night when we should have been at home with our families. Good times.

Note how the Game Board is quite professionally rendered! Almost like one from a shop. Certainly better than the rubbish I churn out these days. And there are even rules and playing tokens! What happened to me? How did I go from being an eager, shiny, competent idealistic cartoonist to the world-weary, shambolic husk who pens the cartoons these days? Perhaps my path mirrors that of the Australian Labor Party, once the hope of millions, today a soulless, corrupted caricature of itself, selling its soul to the highest bidder.

  1. It’s quite astonishing to realise that only 2 years ago things were so completely different.
Exactly 24 months ago (pretty much the same time until the next federal election) Firstdog Onthemoon could actrually produce an entire quite wordy piece of biting political satire that contains not a single solitary spelling mistake.
    Oh how quickly things change.
