Lutzia, thank you. I am glad you enjoyed the book. Of course there are a number of blog posts on the site that were not in the book and I hope you read and enjoyed them. There might be a sequel if Rocky approves. As I said in my farewell, another book is brewing. Thanks again for this lovely message.

Oh I've only just discovered Rocky and Gawenda the book at my local library - I loved it - and now come searching for the blog and find the Gawenda is on another journey - drat! I hope it ends in another book? Well done Mr Gawenda - thank you for sharing your thinking with me. We all think our early morning or late night thoughts, but the skill in being able to put them into words is tremendous.

Arye (pronounced A-ri-yeah) - I think that was his first name, although we only ever knew him as Mr Lipshitz. He was a Kaluszyner - from the town of Kaluszyn, where my (paternal) grandparents and my father came from, and he spoke exactly the same way (with the same Yiddish accent) as my grandmother and her best friend Masha Obronczka, who all dropped their "haiches".

All I remember is he was tall, had a very long face with a creased forehead, and had that wonderful deep, Kaluszyner voice. And we always saw him at the Kaluszyner functions.

I know it's now over a year old, but I am besotted with this blog. Wonderful writing and really moving......

Whoops. I was saying I am glad you are enjoying the blog. I stopped some time ago because I am writing something else. But Rocky and Gawenda is available in book form. Not sure still in bookshops but MUP would know. You might find it somewhere! Best wishes, Michael

I think the same is true for family grief. In other words, there's no such thing as family grief. Just individual grief which is intensely private.

This short entry is so profound.

(I'm now addicted to your blog since finding it in the middle of the night a few hours ago.....)

Thank you Cathy. Glad you agree that Bono was a wonderful man. Mind you, I always thought whiskey was his drink. But why not wodka as well!

Great article Michael - you nailed Mr Weiner.
I used to work with him at Jetset in the late 70s & this article brought back happy memories of a wonderful man but we drank wodka then rather than whiskey.
