I pretty much agree with Stephen Cummings, who writes in his memoir:
Music was magic or freedom. I got hooked…Originally rock and roll was about rhythm and dancing. It attracted individualists who had an artistic bent but were lazy and wanted to do stuff straight away….Since then it has been argued that the advent of of the drum machine changed music irreversibly…Some say this was when rock lost its roll. Others claim that happened years before when it appeared in the arts pages and went legitimate. But I’m still hooked, even if the fine detail washes over me. Whatever comes is better than what went before.
This is what this blog is aiming at: Music for grown-ups, always searching for new stuff, but inevitably hearing it within the context of the songs that got me hooked in the first place.
