Australia waiting for its Bolting

I’m excited …. word has it that tomorrow – Wednesday – Andrew “The Xenophobic Battler’s Clever Friend’ Bolt will at last deliver his long-hand verdict on Baz Luhrmann’s Australia.

It’s no plot spolier to say that the film deals at length with the whole stolen generations thing, giving sympathetic flesh to something that was undoubdtedly a multi-generational agony, but remains a pretty abstract notion for most white Australians.

One assumes that Bolt may be somewhat constrained in just what he can say about one of Rupert’s films … maybe not. We look forward to seeing. He’s blogged on it, repeating his rote stolen generation – ‘just name 10 children’ -  cant. What an angry little man he is. What a bundle of raw and reddened nerves.

And how the gaggle lap it up, sensing a kindred spirit, taking consolation that the barely articulated, suppurating poison that runs in their veins – just spend 10 minutes wallowing through the comment strings on his blog – is shared by someone so public, so literate, so serious.

Jonathan: Congratulations for commenting on the odious, unprincipled, inaccurate, utterly biased, cringe-making, groveling to Rupert, lying, bullying excuse for a journalist, Andrew Bolt.
I’m interested that you call him a ‘little man’. It is my bitter experience that two of the greatest evils in history are religion, and little men.

As his audience is composed of people whose literacy usually begins where the big pictures and the footy columns, I’m surprised they cottoned on to him in the first place. Having said that I have to admit he is like a vampire. He fastens on to the suppurating wounds of the lower class. (I know this is offensive terminology but I can’t think of an alternative description). Their hatreds, their bias, the evil in their hearts whilst gently fanning the wound and leaving behind a running and open sore. (This is actually what a vampire bat does. And they are small and rather cute)

I think you are being optimistic to think he will be restrained by being caught in a cleft stick about Rupert’s equally cringe-making movie. He will merely blame it all on the global warming worriers amongst us. Ditto the Stolen Generation. Like they weren’t stolen in the first place.

Jonathan, you and I and lots of other people must grow up. The slaughter of the Armenians by the Turks never happened. Auschwitz was a fairy tale, so was Buchenwald and hey, nobody ever went to war in Iraq. And my name is Clark von Stonehause. Or Fred Nerk.

I’m a little bit disconcerted. I read his rant. Naturally he had to revert to form, but the first part of it was sufficiently damning. The moment he said he came from Darwin he was ‘on song’. I can’t wait to miss the movie. He said there was a shot of a small racist white kid, slanging off at at black kid, whilst holding a kangaroo.

I’ll never forgive Luhrmann for some of the tripe I’ve had to put up with from non-Oz born citizens.
