Hi Venise! Thanks for following.

I actually read some Fisk at Uni. And Bangkok Eight sounds like a ripper (just looked it up on Amazon). Don’t ever feel inadequate for the books you like! But if you’re looking to broaden your horizons I hope this blog proves useful to you, and a lot of the things I link to. Feel free to recommend stuff to me, too, when you think it might be something that is outside my comfort zone but that I might get a lot out of. As you’ll see when you have a look around, while I predominantly enjoy literary fiction, Australian books, emerging writers and short fiction, I do read very widely – crime, poetry, fantasy, sci-fi, nonfiction (incl. history, biography, social comment, political etc.) and more! Happy to have you around.

I will start to follow you. As a compulsive reader I’m kind of questioning my reading habits. My present books are “The Great War for Civilization: The conquest of the Middle
East” Robert Fisk. I find it enormously readable-all thirteen hundred pages of it.
The next one is “Bangkok Eight” which is a riveting thriller by John Burnett.
I’m addicted to these sorts of books, but have a nagging feeling I’m missing out on a vast section of life. Do you agree?

I know – I love looking at those covers!

I’m always and forever addicted to Bowie. He’s my top musical man and has been for about six years now (& saw him live in 2004). Bon Iver I’m not as familiar with. Have heard of him, of course. Which song should I look up?

And of course you can follow me on Twitter. The more, the merrier. It’s great to be able to do little updates here and there. And I’m REALLY loving Stephen Fry’s feed. He makes his fans feel so loved. Wonder who else is on there. Oh! New York Times Books feed is also great. But giving me far too much to read online.

Ahh, you pipped me with Stephen’s blog. That will teach me to hold back on newsy stuff. He is getting some good chats up to begin with, isn’t he. There is a blog at the Times Literary Supplement too, the Brit counterpart to ALR, so I would imagine that would be a factor as well as your terrific space here, Ange.
