Bethanie Blanchard is a freelance writer and critic based in Melbourne.
Her writing centres on literature, arts and culture, and has appeared in The Monthly, The Australian, The Drum, The Big Issue, Kill Your Darlings, Meanjin, The Lifted Brow, ABC’s Limelight, Crikey, Women’s Agenda, Killings and The Wheeler Centre, amongst others.
Bethanie is a mentor at Writers Victoria for 2013.
She is is a recipient of the ‘Australian Postgraduate Award’ prestigious research scholarship and is currently completing a postgraduate research degree in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne. She tutors in literary censorship and contemporary literature.
In 2012 Bethanie was awarded a CAL Scholarship to attend the Writer-in-Residence Mentor program at Varuna.
She holds a B.A. (Hons) in Literature from the University of Melbourne and has worked as the online intern for Kill Your Darlings journal, as an Associate Producer of Emerging Writers’ Festival 2011 and as co-editor of antiTHESIS journal vol. 21.
She has appeared on panels at the Melbourne Writers Festival, Emerging Writers’ Festival, National Young Writers’ Festival, Critical Animals and Express Media’s NEWS Conference.
Bethanie has also been a guest on ABC Radio National Drive, Books & Arts Daily, and literary podcasts The Rereaders and JOMAD.
