Who on earth is the person you’re talking about? What has he done to merit this sort of coverage?

Because of the large Collingwood cartoon I have to assume the person concerned is a sports person. Mercifully, the football season is over, so what sport does he play? Is he a cricketer?

I’ve never heard of a hoop being aligned with football. They have enough trouble staying aligned with their mounts, so I’m deleting them as a prospect.

Well, it’s pretty clear the offender plays some sort of game. WTF is sport doing in this section of Crikey? Haven’t they got a special section for the verbally-challenged clods who are literate enough to get their tongues around the word carn…

Venise, I’m not sure whether or not you’re having a bit of a joke here. If not, then my guess would be Justice Shane Marshall of the Federal Court of Australia.

Dear Venise, Please note that I reserve the right to, within reason, put what I want on this blog – and the only ‘merit’ required is my opinion.
And yes, Shane has a huge place in his heart for all things Collingwood and related – including providing very real support for the Yuendumu Magpies – the footy team from my home town of Yuendumu.
Another of Shane’s loves is horses.
And sport has everything to do with Crikey and The Northern Myth blog…it just doesn’t rear its ugly head all that often…
A bit of levity from time to time sets us all free!
And Jones(y) – you got it right in one!
And I’ll have a few more ‘Ten Questions for…’ coming up – from all sorts of characters!!
And the best of the season to you all!

Carn the Woods! I still struggle with the new Aussie rules – AFL as when I left Victoria (long ago) it was still VFL and we had the occassional game against Adelaide and West Oz! Always a Collingwood fan even though I lived in Fairfield North (Thornbury). My friends next-door were a mystery to me as I thought brothers would support the same team as each other. But no! One was a ‘pies fan and the other Fitzroy. What has become of the Fitzroy fans now as the Brisbane Lions have stolen their team? Sad. I didn’t like Fitzroy but now I am expected to barrack for them as I live in Brisbane! (sigh) I go to the occassional game and cheer for the Lions but bad luck for them if they are playing against Collingwood. I cannot change loyalty that easily and like Shane I have a soft spot for any “magpies” team. AND now I am expected to support rugby league … good grief what a world we live in. I recently made comment in Andrew Bartletts blog (http://blogs.crikey.com.au/bartlett/2008/12/13/i-dont-believe-it/) that the Qld government practices blatant religious descrimination by not offering Collingwood number plates. It has to be Cowboys, Broncos or Lions unless you want to go ecumenical and support “soccer-the world game”!
    Happy New Year

I loved the comments by Venise.I think that a healthy disrespect for those in authority, provided it is not malicious,is an admirable Aussie trait.Good on you Venise! Best wishes, Shane.
