I spent 10 years travelling up and down the Stuart Highway and when these southerners hit the road when they began to shiver down south and head north for a bit of relief from the 'old' arthritis. It was a nightmare trying to get past the 'speeding' fold (10 in a pack, 80Kph, bumper to bumper). You should have heard some of the road train driver's comments? They freeloaded in every parking bay on the side of the highway. $#@^ knows what they did at night. I suspect they tossed their van keys in the ring for a night of excitement, not much else to do some 50kms south of Elliot or in some other freebie parking area in the outback. One told me he and themissus got up as early as possible every the morning, have a quickie (breakfast that is) and race everyone to the next free park for the best posse under the shade for another night of excitement. %^&$ just remembered I might be joining them next year, but at least I will show a bit of respect for ALL the other road users.

Bob - a bit judgemental mate. I think a bit of envy here, everyone wants a home down south and the ability to go North in winter.
