Desperate times: Dismissal proof air fares offered in America

New York based ‘hip’ low cost airline JetBlue has launched dismissal proof air fares in the epicentre of the global financial crisis. Under its Promise Program, most buyers of air fares will be eligible for a full refund if they are fired before they fly. Small businesses and large families can claim refunds on bookings for up to nine passengers on the same flight.

The airline’s attempt to counter consumer pessimism copies the main feature of a similar ‘fired proof’ sales campaign in the US by car maker Hyundai in January, after attempts to sell very cheap cars well in advance to shore up its production and delivery backlogs ran into buyer fears over wide spread retrenchments among higher salary earners.
