This was the nearest thing Australia has ever had to a fully loaded jet airliner disaster in which the aircraft was damaged yet no-one was killed or injured.
The timelines and graphics in the ATSB preliminary factual report show that Emirates flight EK 407 and the 275 people on board were seconds and centimetres from a [...]

The first official report into the worst non-fatal air accident in Australia involving damage to an airliner, Emirates flight EK 407, has just been released.
The Crikey bulletin this afternoon will examine the report and separately, the media amnesia that set in for more than two weeks after the accident.
A full report will also be [...]
Those who leave air travel tips on the main Crikey site are of course admitted to the lounge.
This report was lodged today:-
QF74 from San Francisco to Sydney on Friday 24 April arrived more than three hours late after being diverted via Brisbane. Passengers onboard were told the flight had been diverted because of “fog” at [...]

The Boeing 737 just became prettier and meaner at the same moment in Seattle today.
The ‘prettier’ bit is a new interior with fancy LED lights in the ceiling which will be delivered in new 737s from about now.
The ‘meaner’ parts, which the airline bean counters will also find very pretty, is a substantial package of [...]
Tiger Airways has now said sorry three times in six days, twice to angry customers, and once to the RSL.
Last Thursday it apologised for incorrectly charging some customers over the use of a baby seat.
The next day it apologised to the RSL for conducting an ANZAC DAY sale which broke the laws protecting [...]
Tiger Airway’s FREE (but with charges) ANZAC DAY sales drive is disgraceful, disrespectful and insulting.
As pointed out in this item in Crikey today, it is also contrary to rules and laws that its competitors obey.
Tiger Airways launched a blatant Anzac Day rip off this morning leaving itself open to prosecution under the Crimes Act [...]
There is something really odd about the conduct of the Singapore Airlines controlled low fare carrier Tiger Airways in Australia.
Singapore Airlines sells low fares too, but goes out of its way to reward its customers in terms of service.
Tiger Airways seems to have a culture of being evasive, tricky, unreliable and contemptuous of its customers. [...]
Despite the speculation about Dreamliner first flight by 29 April, a few more callers have said the jet won’t be ready by Wednesday week. So, here’s to hanging out until say 29 May, at which point my optimism and the enthusiasm of some who are well connected in such matters may well peel off in [...]
Speculation is firming on 29 April for the first flight of the Boeing 787 with a relaunch of the Boeing 737 family as the replacement headline act if the prototype of the Dreamliners isn’t quite ready for take off.
Calls taken after the previous posting on the super greening of the 737 line-up claim [...]
Boeing may be close to launching a major upgrade to its 737 single aisle jet family if hints it dropped at the delivery ceremony for No 6000 to come off the line this week mean anything.
The 737 is the most flown jet ever and has been around since 1968 although technically everything in the early [...]
