Tiger A320, VIP Global Express, get too close to each other near Melbourne Airport
A Tiger Airways A320 with 180 tiny seats descending to its landing at Melbourne Airport zipped too closely past an outgoing VIP chartered Global Express with only eight very luxurious seats that had just departed for an airport near Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday afternoon.
The ATSB says in a brief note that it is investigating the aircraft separation incident.
The Global Express concerned is an older model last shown on the public record as registered to a US charter company based at Teterboro Airport outside New York City.
Such charters are often used to ferry high rollers between Crown Casino and Asia.
If it was a high roller charter they, like the punters on the Tiger flight, were very, very lucky.

You can see the incident occur on AirServices WebTrack replay.
Set WebTrack to start playing at 1:15pm, and you’ll see the Bombardier Global Express take off. The incident happens about 3 minutes later.
Tiger A320 altitude: 7,205 feet.
Global Express altitude: 7,779 feet.
Just eyeballing it, I think the horizontal separation may be around 2km.
