NASA says the Curiosity rover on Mars has made a discovery for the history books.

However it says it will not reveal more until later  as it re-checks data. Speculation of course, is that evidence of life has been found.

It may not be that ‘historic’ but nevertheless a major discovery made in one of the soil samples collected by Curiosity at its landing site in Gale Crater which is being analyzed by the most sophisticated chemical laboratory ever put into operation outside Earth, as reported in The Slate.
