Reflections on the Miracle of Democracy at Work in the Greatest Nation on Earth

Ready, set, go

As I type, Peter Beattie is speaking at a press conference announcing a Queensland state election for September 9. Following a very late night last night, I have knocked into shape a partially completed election guide that might be wanting for a bit of proof-reading. At this stage it is limited to outlines of the electoral history of each seat, which will be fleshed out in due course with further detail on the areas covered by the electorates and commentary on the main candidates. Completion of this will probably limit the amount of blog commentary in the first week or so of the campaign, but we’ll see how we go.

Hi. I am writing my Master dissertation on the effect blogging has on political campaigns. And I am using the Queensland state election as a case study.

At the moment I am trying to make up a list of all the political opinion blogs that are likely to discuss the election. If anyone has an interest in helping me do this I would be very pleased.

Front page of the Courier-Mail website.

“THOUSANDS of Queenslanders risk not voting on September 9 because Premier Peter Beattie advised Governor Quentin Bryce to set the close of enrolments in the minimum permissable time — just five days.”

I wonder if there will be similar outrage next year when the Federal election is called and the rolls close at once, no five days grace.

The “election guide” link, http://blogs.crikey.com.au/pollbludger/category/queensland-election-2006/qld2006.htm appears to be broken.

You might want to update your page for the Gympie race – Elisa Roberts backpedalled yesterday and announced that she will indeed run again.

It appears to me likely that the qld government will be relected
this is based on the big majority they already have and
the fact that the libs & nats cannot get their act together
If there were to be a change of government there would be more
seats held by the liberals or nationals.
also it is possible that the alp could win back Chatsworth,Redcliffe or
    Currumbin

sorry I intended to say there would be more seats held by the liberals than
the nationals if there were to be a change of government
