Sky News exit poll has Labor leading 53-47. That’s in 31 selected marginal seats. Apparently it suggests 54-46 overall. Howard trails 53-47 in Bennelong. Labor 58-42 ahead in Eden-Monaro.
UPDATE: Channel Seven exit poll says 53-47 nationally, 53.5-46.5 in Bennelong, 8 per cent swing to Labor in Bass, 6 per cent swing in Braddon.

Let it be, let it be, let it be oh let it be…….
Sample size 800+ for Bennelong and 2000+ overall? Does not add up?
Happy Dance
Diddlee Diddlee Dee Dee Dee……
The End IS NEIGH!
Sweet news! Not long to wait now.
if it was only true – dont trust sky
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this goes according to plan (and follows the exit polls), bye bye Galaxy, and to a lesser extent Newspoll and the GG. How sweet.
but please please please let it be true
The trouble is vast numbers of people esp in Qld and WA are STILL VOTING.. This could have a negative effect on voting in those places..
Jonh howard, thanks for running a strong economy, now just pleeeeze f&%k off.
Wooohooo!!!
What will the OG say about that [Opposition Gazette!]!
FFS, keep a lid on it.
This is Skynews not the New York Times.
It could be complete bollocks.
The exit poll is showing EXACTLY what most polls have been telling us for months.
Do we dare to hope? Cannot trust Sky, cannot trust Sky, cannot ………
oblivion for the Liberals – what a great day for the country – what a joy for the blindly optimistic – let it be so!!!
Lefty E’s going to have to come up with a new name for the GG.
10 Flash- if you are sad enough to be like us glued to the screen, you would already have voted. And anyway, they would want to back a winner. The Fat Lady is warming up!!
Dear God , I want only 3 things for Christmas. 1. A Rudd Government 2. John Howard looses Bennelong and 3. Kerrie Tucker wins the ACT Senate seat for the Greens.
Real or dodgy, this should certainly help the vote in those lineball WA seats. It’s much better, pork wise, to have a government member as your MP.
Oh wow oh wow oh wow…be still my heart…oh wow!
Oh this is too much. Bring on 6 pm and let the party begin – Liberal Armageddon is about to begin and I have the chips, some drinks and parked in front of the telly to fully appreciate the carnage.
Bring it on!
Morgan the most accurate tipster!
Channel 7 exit poll Bennelong 7% to Labor.
Lyn @ 18 – already have one……the OG
7% 07 !
For anyone that’s cashed up you can still get $1.18 on Betfair – snap it up
I have a terrible sinking feeling that this is John Kerry exit poll syndrome .. May I be wrong..
Sorry to be dense. But what does GG stand for? Other than Governor General.
What 7% to labor in bennelong mean?
gg= governent gazette
Diogenes.
You have great tase in reds – enjoy every drop of the Black Shiraz!!!
Peter, GG stands for Government Gazette (and Governor General)
30 Sean-Dead Rodent
sean 53.5-46.5 i guess
Sean – a 7% swing. Only needs 4% ish
YIPPPPPEEEE
Sean, it means “Honest John” is out of a job
Its going be a wipeout! eat that GG!
To be clear, the 53-47 was MARGINALS ONLY. The national was notionally 54-46.
looks like the lid has been taken off people…….!
Greeting all from sunny Johannesburg. I have been waiting 11 long years for this day (like a few others) – am about to fire up abc coverage. Anticipating 80 seats, hoping for 85 and dreaming of 90 – exit polling sounds encouraging. Wonder if we’re in for a UK 97 style evening?
Qld/NSW should tell us plenty and hopefully earlyish…
The exit polls are LEGIT. ALP have taken off on Betfair. We have a new Prime Minister.
Does this mean there is a god???
Who gives a rats! The rodent’s gawn!
Brissonden on ABC news just said that the Libs think they are in deep deep trouble in NSW.
Queues 500-600 deep at polling booths and they think that doesn’t bode well.
15 minutes to the count
Nicola PM in 2117
Rudd will remember Honest Johns example and retire to Monaco.
And GG refers to The Australian.. to provide the full explanation
news.com.au have already got rid of the ‘cliffhangar’ headline….
PeterofMalvern
GG=Government Gazette=The Australian Newspaper. Based on view that The Australian is a Government mouthpiece.
John Kerry convincingly won the exit polls against GW Bush in 2004.
Labor is a foregone conclusion to win.
Please please please let Howard lose Bennelong!
Can anyone reccommend the right url to listen into Kerry et al on abc, by any chance? having a bit of trouble finding it…
Galaxy and Newspoll will be shown for what they are, polls for hire.
John Kerry lost because of blatant vote rigging in Ohio and Florida.
I heard a whisper that Labor is confident – based on their pollling last night – that they will pick up 28 seats. The whisper could be spin – but I think it matches these exit polls.
I think I just wet myself.
If Labor is winning Eden Monaro with 58% of the vote, this is a frigging landslide LOL
Mike Kelly: New Defence Minister?
Have to work on it Lyn, but off the top of my head, I rechristen the GG the PP (Pollfraud Press)
Can an incumbant conceed before counting starts?
The Kerry exit polls were biased because they were conducted at precincts (not by phone) by college students who mostly interviewed other college students.

Chaser boys dress as Osama to give Chijoff HTV card.
OMG… Just flicked over to 7 for a second and they have Mark Arbib and Barnaby Joyce on their panel… Usual Chanel 7 balance going on…
John Kerry lost because he was a wound up stiff and lacked a backbone in politics but certainly not in life. Ie Vietnam
Love the title on ninemsn
“Howard begs for last minute votes”
Expat @ 51 – try this page: http://www.abc.net.au/elections/federal/2007/
FORGET EXIT POLLS
DO NOT GET EXCITED AT ALL
TV channels do not cover the following
1/ Exit Polls declare only those people who own up to how they voted
and do NOT give you a % tally of ‘refused to answer’
so they are not a true sample
2/ Exit polls over a particular BOOTH are useless as booths vary in voting patterns over a seat. My booth is in a 80% liberal vote area against a 55% actual vote
Any word on wentworth?
who thinks caroline overington will get the sack.. via aface slap?
Steven Lloyd – Howard in Bunker, asking around for a pistol…
Yeah baby, Howard gone in Bennelong.
So sweet. Not to mention the $500 odd I will win as a result!!
Dont worry Flash 10 , most people in Queensland and Western Australia , who havent yet voted are out and about enjoying themselves, not political crazies like us, sitting forever in front of the computer, waiting for the polls to close! Those voters will just go and vote for who they planned to anyway. There are always voters who who leave it to the last thing.
Mad Cow: we’re going to get Paterson? I want Jim Arneman to win, I read his bio on the Labor website, and I think he’d make a terrific member of parliament.
Seems like a great bloke!
So what time will Antony call it?
Listen to Ron Brown people.
Exit polls are rubbish.
I thought this was a blog for political junkies and amateur psephologists.. but it’s looking like a partisan lefty love-in tonight. shame.
8.01
LOL. The exit poll is saying exactly what the polls have been telling us (except yesterday).
People, get excited. It is all over. Enjoy……..!
if this pans out….watchout for the spike in the birth rate in 9 months……
ron brown
if the refuseniks vote in the same proportion as those polled then it makes no diff. Of course they arguably would be more secretive/ embarrased by their voting intention and hence likely to be a greater proportion of coalition voters
Brenton – what? You mean not everyone is hitting refresh every few seconds? My god this is so much fun after being worried for so long. 8 more minutes and then fun can really begin!
Even Bennalong
I used to live in Gladesville suburb in Bennalong
working class
strong Labor
Go to Eastwood or Putney suburbs also in Bennalong
posh homes
strong Liberal
where are the booths doing the exit polls on !!!
ie I take no notice
HAHAH… George Newhouse: “If Caroline pushed me, she pushed me in the face and it felt like a punch”… Classic…
Ron, they are not listening.
The real stuff starts soon enough.
Here’s my xmas wish list..
1. Rudd wins (finally some hope for this country)
2. Rudd wins so convincingly noone ever tries to duplicate Howard/Costello/Abbot/etc
3. Bennelong falls.
4. Wentworth falls (as a reminder that money can’t buy votes and dirty tricks aren’t liked)
4. Paterson falls (same thing Baldwin has spent 1.5 million bucks)
5. Liberals lose outright control in the senate.
6. Several prominent ministers dissapear in enormous swing (oh the symbolism)
George – thank you. LETS GET READY TO RUMBLLLLLLLLE…
SMH saying we can call it at 6.30….
http://www.smh.com.au/news/federal-election-2007-news/alp-on-course-for-victory/2007/11/24/1195753349569.html
sydgal is spot on
i havent had this much fun standing up in ages….come to think of it i havent had this much fun lying down either…
Jusr heard on Sky that Overthetop ‘assaulted Newhouse at a polling booth. She apparently punched him in the face-later reduced to pushed with a open hand. what a goose.
Put a sock in it everyone and wait for thr real results. The ones the scrutineers start counting at 6pm. Exit polls are not the real poll.
HH Big swing here. Don’t know if it’s 6.8% just yet. You know what Labor ought to have done is point out that Baldwin will be useless as an *opposition* back bencher. A lot of people only voted for him for the pork, or the perception of pork.
I haven’t missed any exit poll from Nine?
So ron and spiros you think the Libs are still in this?????????????????????
Bruce Baird… more heavy breathing
Ron
They would obviously have sampled a range of booths within bennelong, given the wide demographic. They want to get it right. Polling just one or two booths would be absolutely stupid.
The exit polls are a fantastic sign and I feel that we are in for a great result. Not all done and counted yet but looking pretty damn good so far.
No Joffaboy I do not.
Labor will win and win well.
But exit polls are useless.
nostradoofus, you’re quite right exit polls aren’t the real one, but everything converges — pre-poll, exit poll. very little contradiction anywhere. alp almost certain to win, just a matter of how much.
Coalition will win by a seat!
Kidding

Steven Lloyd – Howard in Bunker, asking around for a pistol…
Yes he has asked Tony abbott to bring around the wife and kids to
I love Kevvie and I am gunna leae my wife for Maxine
Mad Cow: it’d be hilarious if Baldwin gets beaten after spending all that money, and an under resourced Labor candidate wins.
Paterson isn’t too far from where I live, so I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for Jim.
Ron I’m next to Putney on the river and was polled by Ch 7
well we’ll know in a few hours
God you’ve been a wet blanket Ron Brown (65) Nevertheless, you have a point. I’m keeping the lid on at the moment. I’ll believe it when I see it.
I threw the lid away 20 mins ago…
Oh Frabjous day! Calloo! Callay!
No worries spiros.
The real counting starts in 3 minutes so you do have a point
At the end of the day if everything points to one result, that result will be pretty darn likely.
HH, Labor will win many seats, too many to count, but Patterson won’t be one of them.
Amazingly you can still get Labor at 1.20 at canbet. They are giving money away. Needless to say I have helped myself. Sportingbet closed their book seconds after the exit poll came out… they are obviously not in the mood to hand out profits to punters.
I like the look of ‘em exit polls though
Innacurate yes, but they seems to be consistently so\ in one directilon. again.
I gather there’s an MOE of 2% on the Sky news one (2700 sample) – so we’re ahead any way you slice it
Lets wait an see….
Make of it what you will.
An affable self-proclaimed senior liberal told me (bear in mind I was handing out YR@W HTVs in an orange t-shirt) he had seen the last round of Liberal polling and they were going to win by 2 seats but they were still going to be hammered in Qld.
Re exit polls: a lot more people declined YR@W and ALP HTVs as the day wore on.
First glass of champagne!
Ashley… let’s hope you rake it in.
I think it’s gonna be a happy night!
I declared it in my 12.50pm and 4.53pm posts from the betting.
You bloody BYOTAY
Have a great night guys.
massive queue at the tally room – Charles Firth from Chaser on the ch9 coverage…
Captain jack — exactly right. the more independent bits of information pointing in the same direction, the more likely the direction they’re pointing in is the one things are going.
polls still not closed up here guys… let’s take a deep breath before getting to oexcited.. there is plenty of time tonight to enjoy this if it all works out… don’t get too worked up …
have to say I did plenty of travel around bris vegas today and there was a real rudd rules brisbane feel… my parents both voted labor for the first time in 4 elections and that was the general feel from my family as a whole… I think it is fair to say qld is swinging large (in my little micro experiment!!)
Why, Spiros?
There’s nothing particularly special here. Few of us really like Baldwin. The 6.8% margin is inflated by a bunch of factors including the collapse of the Labor vote in some tradtional Labor booths last time thanks to the Lathan factor.
I’m still calling it very close.
I don’t want to build my hopes up to fall Snap. The AEC virtual tally room has no votes counted thus nothing to get excited about yet. I love the enthusiasm, but we have to see Howard concede and the final official result.
Love Youse All. Don’t wanna be a party pooper.
They’re off and racing!
QUEENSLANDER
As a Rudd Battler I look forward to seeing all my fellow battlers in Hasting St Nossa this Xmas.
this is just too exciting. need to calm down….
ABC has kicked in!
ABC has kicked in!
reports that Howard went back out this afternoon to Bennelong and campaigned right to 4.30.
Will there be tears? Can’t wait to see Hyacinth.
Just watched a bit of Ch9 coverage – not bad. But will be watching ABC most of the time. Good luck fellow travellers!
can anyone give me a good link to a web site with the counting down to the booth level?
Understand totally nostradoofous, but i think it was all over at week 2. you never know for sure till it’s confirmed though, so fair enough. but i don’t see much cause for concern right now.
No red tie on Red Kerry!
kerry just confirmed it – a swing to labor confirmed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
All the polls did well except Galaxy and the weird last Newspoll – prior to that they were pretty close.
I was wrong – orange not red
Indecision 07 with Roy and HG on JJJ has kicked off too.
And BTW Caroline Overington is not a journalist anymore…she is out the door
http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Journalist-slaps-Newhouse-witnesses/2007/11/24/1195753348350.html
was that cheering on the ABC for the first results being posted or for Julia?
we all know that the only poll that counts is the one that happens on November 24………… Oh rigth thats today.
Mad Cow

Virtual Tally Room
This is going to be AWESOME.
Minchin knows they’re SOOO stuffed.
I hope all goes well for the labor supporters.
But I cant be as happy as I woud like after reading the News.com.au article about little shellay ward’s funeral.Only 6 people including police meda person. No burial- just transported anonymously to the cremn a few days.
Unfortunately it links in as she died in Hawks Nest -Howards holiday town. ays it all.
Will it be enough?………..
Which is the best online site to track counting?
I handed out how to vote card at two booths in Forrest today, both in Busselton. There is swing to labor, the Independent Noel Brunning was a no show and had no representatives at any booths. Libs showed up very late to all booths in the area and were surprisingly disappointing in their showing.
If Johnnie looses Bennelong I will be so happy..
Now a massive spread between Betfair back and lay on Coalition, 4.40 back, 5.40 lay. Labor stable at abt 1.17/128

The exit polls in all States were phone polls like a normal opinion poll. It was not taken at booths. Execpt for Tassie which was face to face. This exit poll has credibility but has the usual MoE. Sample was more than 2000 but cannot remember the actual number. I agree with Ron to not open the bottle of red just yet, but get it out pull out the red wine glasses and be very ready to open the bottle.
Savour every moment of this .. This is one for the ages. We will all look back on this for years to come.
Coonan looks on the edge of tears!
Coonan looks like she wants to cry…. poor diddums.
Coonan won’t be a very pretty loser!
why wont she look at Fran?
Nice summary Roscoe — agree.
None of them will be
“Execpt for Tassie which was face to face.”
Which face did they ask, the left one or the right one?
NO ANGER???????????????????
Coonan looks like death warmed up. She’s on anti-depressives.
Coonan pulls the Crosby Textor line. Too late, sweetie!
and the makeup is caked on.
I’d like to wrap a Cat 5 cable around Coonan’s neck and send 1000Gb of voter shock through her
Phillip Nitschke might get a few calls tonight.
This could be a sweet sweet night. Please don’t be Don’s Party
Galaxy and Newspoll should be exposed for their deception!!!!
She really is actually…voice was on the verge of breaking!
My simpaticos are nil.
joy!
“Tony Jones will be criss crossing the nation by satelite” (Kerry O’Biren). WTF? Is he like the dog in Sputnik?
“Which face did they ask, the left one or the right one?”
they didnt ask gusface
Steven Smith very confident, as he should be.
Settle!
this is the sweetest night of all
Red?

early election results at http://www.xenoxnews.com
Ed@Bennelong: what a waste of bandwidth.
Mc Guaren may get a shock and lose his own seat.
I have a bottle of Dom Perignon which I shall drink as Howard concedes.
Ron Brown, apparently the Sky News exit polls are done by ringing voters, not in person like in the US.
Still I take your point about getting to excited about them…
You know the Libs are rooted when they start using the phrase “hold the line”
At least she might then understand what bandwidth is
Shutup, Peter!
Let’s hope Labor utterly CRUSHES the Libs this time, as they thorougly deserve.
the line is gone!
LOL @ McGauran
“We’ve been working for this for three years”
Yes, indeed you have.
G’day all
I am back to enjoy the election fun. I was very happy to see on the ninemsn news website with a head line: ‘Its a Ruddslide, says exit polls’.
87 seats to Labor 53.5 TPP
Ed@Bennelong: this is true but it’s still a waste. Doesn’t matter now since she’s going to be sacked
Oh happy day!
nostradoofus, get excited!
Just kidding … but again it’s lookin’ good.
what channel is coonan on?
Hello junior gusface and Mrs Gusface. Hope you found another job quickly. Have been following Mr Gusface’s comments since bryans site.
On my second boo (malibu) hoping for a labor win. Feeling cherpy thx. Dont drink mutch.
Watching sky but everything is an hour behind up here in qld.
william,
Take diggers post off. Racist link
first results turning up on the virtual tally room and on the ABC
Lib insiders “gloomy”
Middleton saying Lib insider word is that they’re completely screwed.
they are
BetFair’s still on: Labor 1.16 / Coalition 55.
I have just voted in the heart of McPherson on the Gold Coast. Had a chat to the Labor HTVs, told them the exit polls results which then had just been released on Sky, gave them a lift. Libs HTVers were stuck out in the park, looking very dejected. I politely declined their offer of a card, but they looked as though they needed anti-depressants, body language -10. All the voters I saw once inside appeared to be holding ALP cards, dare I hope. Big ask, 14% held by Libs, but everything I have heard tells me it is possible.
VTR states 0.01% counted
BetFair’s still on: Labor 1.16 / Coalition 5.5
Howard in front
as antony green would say…..early results yet
Yes, rodent, the country is heading in the right direction – since 8am today.
Yeah Sydgal I’ve been helping to fight Coonan’s ignorance for a long tme and it will be sweet.
Dawson is in play according to ABC Radio.
Labor wins that, Labor wins everything.
Hawkie on Sky has definitely had several drinks already.
Snap, I’m more excited than that bloke Big Kev (irony alert) ever was. Just tempered with a bit of caution.
Ha ha, I’m excited and no one can stop me!
I’m going crazy-warehouse style crazy.
All Liberal seats are walking out the door! Bennelong’s got to go! This government is never to be repeated!
4 to 2 so far.
Beazely on Sky also looks like he stated the party early
what’s up with Gillard ears???
HAHA FORDE.
Shopping list:
Bennelong to Labor, for obvious reasons.
Canning to Labor, because I dislike Don Randall.
Hasluck to Labor, cos I used to live there.
My God!!! A swing of 14.5% to the Nationals according to Antony’s site!! What is the world coming to?
Ok, now that we’ve got the stupid posting based on minimal data, can we wait for some sizeable data to come through? We’re not going to predict an outcome from Calare, are we?
5-2..
God, Peter McGauran is a complete idiot!
What about Uhlman – described mood in the libs as “diabolcal” or some such thing.
Gold.
Looking very good it has to be said, very good indeed!
Downfall!:)
So, the really important question:
How many drunk Young Libs is Leigh going to be fending off with a stick?
Nostradoofus, of course — I feel exactly the same.
I have a live blogging thread up now
IRC doesn’t work for me.
Early figures ’strange’, early days. Just a few isolated rural booths.
IRC – me either
thanks for meebo William
anone not able to use IRC get on the meebo room now – only 20 odd people
can’t believe it!
BetFair is still on: Labor 1.18 / Coalition 5.5
arbie jay has just rung

“nantucket sleigh ride”
No swing in Bennelong!
So far no swing in Benelong, so far!
Well friend, tonights the night.it’s going to be alright. Johnny and his toxic crew are finally going to say goodbye. What a night we are in for! Everyone sit back and savor the enjoyment. It has been a long time coming.
Coonan just said on NINE ” It’ not looking good. It’s very disappointing”
Antony says first booth in Bennelong – a retirement home in North Ryde – is showing a 10% swing to Labor.
Costello “friends” say is he not expecting to win, and will stand for opposition leader…
hether ewart, abc 6.40pm
10% swing in another booth — and mostly riterees — antony surprised … i’m not surprised he’s surprised!!
“were coming back” into govt that is.let all fasciast liberal redneck, ignorant , brainwashed talkback radio listeners realise that , …….they are the noisy minority.and the silent majority is about to speak.
Bennalong looks like it’s gone.
Ho Chi Minchin says no swing in LaTrobe – AEC says 7%
Go gus
LOL!!!! Cheering on ABC when initial results in Bennelong show 10% swing to Labor!
Tanya Plibersek is way way more quality than either mel and “kochie” and the whole channel 7 coverage….
come on maxine! win me $120 and give me the right to say i put my money on that weasle losing his own seat.
Julia looks confident and very presentable. Look of a winner.
Greens look like they are going to do well in the Reps.
The Green vote is incredibly high in many seats. Their preferences will carry Labor to victory! Bennelong does NOT look good for the rodent!
Page in the bag for ALP – 11% swing with 5000 counted
oooh things looking very good for labor. Tony Jones is Very good. really on the ball.
Queensland booths have closed. Let the games begin.
ALP needs QLD to swing like NSW
Patience Rooster
looking good.. looking good..
There seems to be two universes.
1. The exit poll based excitement
2. The so far very mixed real counting
“Bennelong too close to call.”
Go, Maxine!!
Mmm. Some very big swings in safe LNP seats. ABS live results describe:
Braddon, Corangamite and Page as ALP gains.
…and now Lindsay. Thanks Jackie!
I couldnt dream it would be this good
Time to call it
ALP Gains NSW 6 (Robertson, Dobell, Lindsay, P’matta, E-M, Page)

Only 3 seats to go – F…king bewdy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Green called it at 7.45pm – 78 seats to Labor
1.shannahan thinks Howard can win since he has a higher approval rating for who’s shoes do you prefer
2.people will realise when they come to put pen to paper that they want Howard
3.2gb needs to be demolished
