Sky News and Seven exit polls: 53-47

Sky News exit poll has Labor leading 53-47. That’s in 31 selected marginal seats. Apparently it suggests 54-46 overall. Howard trails 53-47 in Bennelong. Labor 58-42 ahead in Eden-Monaro.

UPDATE: Channel Seven exit poll says 53-47 nationally, 53.5-46.5 in Bennelong, 8 per cent swing to Labor in Bass, 6 per cent swing in Braddon.

The exit polls in all States were phone polls like a normal opinion poll. It was not taken at booths. Execpt for Tassie which was face to face. This exit poll has credibility but has the usual MoE. Sample was more than 2000 but cannot remember the actual number. I agree with Ron to not open the bottle of red just yet, but get it out pull out the red wine glasses and be very ready to open the bottle.

Ron Brown, apparently the Sky News exit polls are done by ringing voters, not in person like in the US.

Still I take your point about getting to excited about them…

I have just voted in the heart of McPherson on the Gold Coast. Had a chat to the Labor HTVs, told them the exit polls results which then had just been released on Sky, gave them a lift. Libs HTVers were stuck out in the park, looking very dejected. I politely declined their offer of a card, but they looked as though they needed anti-depressants, body language -10. All the voters I saw once inside appeared to be holding ALP cards, dare I hope. Big ask, 14% held by Libs, but everything I have heard tells me it is possible.
