Democratic voters in West Virginia will today elect 28 delegates by some method or other. I can’t be bothered looking into it because the New York Post reports that Hillary Clinton is “toast”, and papa says, “if you see it in the Post, it’s so”.

argh, ‘taking aim at him’
(why does the brain miss what the fingers are doing? Any cognition experts out there?)
I’ve only just realised that 538.com is in fact Poblano, one and the same.
Slow, or what?
What’s happened to the SD count?
I keep hitting refresh and no update! Sheesh it worse than soccer.
I think Catrina’s Sabbath has arrived, or she’s bunked off for the day! How about a stern talking to when she gets back?
The Republican’s Tom Davis sent out a 21 page memo to his party, basically telling them why their party’s brand is cactus, and a few bits are on Daily Kos for analysis.
Just one phrase caught my attention: “a soft housing market”. Davis puts this in a list of things that just might be upsetting voters and making them not like Republicans.
“Soft”?
One of the most characteristic attitudes of the Republicans in this near 8 years of the idiot Bush, has been the consistent denial of reality, whether it’s been about Iraq, Katrina, global warming, the actual level of danger from terrorists, you name it, they’ve denied the facts and spun the hype.
So to call the US housing market ’soft’, like a brie too long in the sun, is the most incredible bit of denial you could imagine.
The housing market in the US is like nothing since the GREAT DEPRESSION, and that is a FACT; one of those awkward things that Republicans have such difficulty with. Two million homes will be foreclosed and the glut of unsold property is spreading like a cancer across the country, and he calls that ’soft’!
No wonder their ‘brand’ is in the toilet, they cannot even speak the truth even amongst themselves!
Huckabee’s “no offence intended”reminds me of a wet Windy day at Essendon football ground. 11am, the reserves are playing, and we are the lonely group dripping in the outer. The umpire gives a decision adverse to Essendon, and a voice echos across the near empty ground.. “YOU F*CKING GREASY LITTLE WHITE C*NT!!!!!…. NO OFFENCE INTENDED!”
Mutatis mutandis, Hucks could be an Essendon supporter (No offence intended).
McCain, on the stump in 2000:
“It is conservative to seek to improve the lives of our servicemen and women and the means with which we ask them to defend us, and it is conservative…
And it is conservative to demand that America keep its promises to our veterans. ”
…like sending them back to Iraq with PTSD?

yeah, Huckster’s another greasy little god botherer, all smarmy with the lord stuff, but just another used car salesman with the scruples of a pimp.
One last thing, well two really:

With the emerging possibility of the end to the War on Terror and the obvious change to the political narrative this will cause, by November all the PBs will perhaps know the words to this rocking number verbatim.

High Acidity Factor predicted today – take care!
High Inanity Factor later in day
Possible cool change later this evening to wash it all away.
ESJ,
I wonder how Catrina will handle this one?

this is the story from now on – Obama’s run to the top!

Superdelegate Update
Since yesterday afternoon Obama has picked up another 3 supers. DNC Greg Pecoraro (MD) , Kansas add-on Mark Parkinson, and Colorado add-on Federico Pena. In addition – Obama has picked up one more the Edwards pledged delegates while Clinton has dropped two pledged delegates. This moves Obama ahead of Clinton by 197 delegates.
Total Delegates (pledged and super with Pelosi factor)
Obama: 1913 (112 needed to win)
Clinton: 1716 (309 needed to win)
In the meantime the size of the pool of remaining delegates has dropped to just 416 (189 from the remaining contests and 227 undeclared supers). The Kentucky and Oregon contests will shrink that pledged delegate numbers by 98, leaving Obama with an estimated 98 supers needed to close the deal, while Clinton will be facing the challenge of securing 259 (which is basically 80% of remaining pool).
The Man from Oily River
(with an apology to the guitar strumming Mr. Paterson)
THERE was no movement at the station, for the months had passed around,
That the colt from old Pastor’s Gate had gotten stall,
And had taken the wild Bush’s bait, and twistin’, jivin’and hivin’ to his sound,
So all the cracks and junkies had gathered here at the wailing wall,
For a dead and lame horse, she is gaining and galloping splendid,
For the bucking brumby, frotherin’ mouth with foam, he is in need for a speed.
And what about Obama of the Overflow? the one who gives you the fever,
Well, he’s just another overflow, of nothingness, down the Kosciusko’s Oily River.

After lobbying for background checks at gun shows, McCain has now become the gun lobby;s best friend:
“LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Senator John McCain reached out to the National Rifle Association on Friday and warned 6,000 people at the group’s annual convention that a President Barack Obama or Hillary Rodham Clinton would put the rights of “law-abiding’’ gun owners at risk.
In a speech in one of two states where political primaries are to be held next Tuesday, Mr. McCain mocked Mr. Obama to the gun lobbying group he has tangled with in the past, but whose endorsement he now needs to help him shore up his conservative support.”

For an old guy he does a mean backflip – and the real campaign hasn’t even begun yet.
#1415 – typo: link from: http://www.electoral-vote.com/
What is it with you guys who so vehemently hate the idea of Obama as POTUS?
Do you really want a retention of the war-mongering stupidity of the current administration (and I include Hillary among the ‘hawks’ -read vultures.)? Can you not see the value of trying a different approach, given the abject failure and mayhem that is the result of “Non- Appeasement” ?
Or are you just blinded by your bigotry.
Or do we just want a candidate who can actually beat the Republicans?
Small correction to my 1414 post.
After Kentucky and Oregon contests I said Obama would need 98 to close the deal – that was a typo – the correct estimate is 64.
Yes Edward- we do. Not just another version of them.
ESJ, it’s all over. Obama is the Democrat nominee. So, no point going on wishing for Hillary.
The question for you (and GG, Finns) now is, Obama or McCain? Who will you be hoping wins?
#1418 – [are you just blinded by your bigotry] – No. He could be white, yellow, red or black, it’s his oiliness. Pastor Wright: “Barack is joust another politician who will do or say anything to get elected”. So what is so special about him?
The Finnigans at 1423
Before addressing qualification by association, if you consider Obama the candidate on the merits of what he has achieved just in the primary campaign, and compare this with what Clinton has achieved in her campaign – do you have a conclusion? For example, if you were to rank each candidate out of 10 based only on their campaign performance – what numbers would you assign to each candidate?
Finns- of course he is a politician. That is a patently stupid comment – the guy is runnung for POTUS. Would you prefer a postal worker,FF’s sake?
He is an outstanding candidate and a decent human being, and he speaks with conviction and humanity. This in itself differentiates him from the rest of the field by a country mile.
Would you honestly prefer the falsness of the Clinton’s or the complete arrogance and blindnedd of the Rpublicans?
Its time to try and do things differently on this ailing planet of ours.
That is why i support Obama, as do a vast number of eligible US voters.
jen, it’s time you get off your moral high horse. just because we disagree with your political opinion, then you go around accusing us being a bigot.
#1423
*sigh*
Oh Finns, are you seriously suggesting that just because Wright hinted at the idea of Obama having no principles, you just assume it is true?
Can’t you see how Wright had his own agenda? He was trying to restore his reputation, which required finding some way to dismiss the veracity of what Obama said about his sermons.
I mean, Howard and Andrews were often fond of assuming guilt based on a single allegation, but surely you don’t really belong with that crowd, do you?
And before you say otherwise, YES, Obama is a politician. And YES, his job is to get elected. I never for one moment thought anything else.
But the difference between Obama and McCain (I’m not bothering with Hillary anymore) is that, although they are both politicians who have to play politics, Obama intends on trying to change how politics is done in the U.S., which means a different approach to foreign policy, being more accountable to the people, talking to them like adults rather than fools, and working with the world on big issues like oil and climate change without relying on spin just to make it look like something is being done.
Obama represents the antithesis of Bush/Howard.
But I’m kinda guessing you’ll be rooting for McCain, right?
Finns- I’m not on any horse, high or low. Just utterly confounded as to why you would prefer the neocons to Obama, and so I am trying to find an explanation. If not bigotry, then what?
Jen, I don’t think Finns has a rational answer.
He backed himself into a corner weeks ago when he refused to face reality over Hillary’s poor attempt at getting the Dem. nomination, and will now say and do anything to try to save face.
jen, there you go again, when i did ever say “I prefer the neocons to Obama”. i used to respect you.
Obama is now wearing an American flag pin.
http://www.theroot.com/id/46544
To be honest, I’m not too impressed with this. I know he is doing it so the media focus more on what he says rather than what he wears, but it’s a shame it should even be an issue.
It is a reminder that the Right are very much in control of the majority of the MSM. I’m looking forward to its decline over coming years…

….
Do you, ESJ? I thought you were a rightist thru and thru. Persuade me otherwise, I’m listening.
Jen,
“obviously you have taken the keyboard back from your stand-in. Abuse resumes”.
Wise words from someone or other. Thank goodness you will never be hoisted on your petard of hypocrisy but you can buy yourself a mirror to see exactly what it looks like.
To be honest noocat, i think this is more about the focus of the media being on non-issues. You can argue about whether its a top-down (enforcing the owners agenda) or bottom-up (trying to sell papers) effect…but i get the feeling that the media will remain focusing on such pathetic nothings
Finns, ESJ, GG, you could do worse than read this too:
http://www.theroot.com/id/46522
And I yo Finns. Your prefernce for Hillary is exactly that- preferring neocons to Obama,- she even supported McCain over Obama publicly.
And yet you insist on ridiculing him as oily and disingenuous when clearly he is neither. So – I want to uinderstand why you would support politicians who want war over attempts at peace, who ignore the environmental crisis we face, and who show disrepect for their constiuents by lying and spinning issues rather than addressing them in all their complexities.
During our own election I recall your support for the exact opposite of this.
Noocat,
The Democrats are not all latte sipping lefties. There are many conservatives who are Democratic supporters. I would have thought the Primary campaign might have brought this detail to your attention.
Growler- if you are saying I am being abusive please provide a quote.
A poem by Barak Obama, Spring 1981
Yo ho ho
You are probably right about the “pathetic nothings”, but I’m hoping that change will come from the bottom-up, as more and more people shrug their shoulders at such trite.

The Democrats are not all latte sipping lefties…
……
And what is it about latte, GG! I know a few latte-sipping reactionaries, but it’s not their taste in coffee that I disagree with. It’s their politics. In your case, it’s hard to know whether you have political views or are just vending cliches for the hell of it.
jen, it’s obvious after seeing the death dolfinn, you have lost all of your senses. i understand the impact that we dolfinns have on people. i have the remedy if you say the magic word
Thanks Catrina. A beauty, that one.
Not sure where you are going on this one, GG…
Just for the record though, I don’t drink coffee.
Delegate Update
Obama gains 1 pledged delegate, Clinton looses 1.
Net gain to Obama is 2.
Delegate Totals (including Pelosi Factor)
Obama: 1914 (111 needed to win)
Clinton: 1715 (310 needed to win)
Delegates Needed to Win
Obama: 111 (26.7% of the pool)
Clinton: 310 (74.5% of the pool)
1441,
The ultimate, being criticised by the “Walter Mitty” of this blog. Someone so sure of their political views, they need multiple personalities to explain them to themselves.
Certainly, no cliche, but very, very weird.
I didn’t know Obama was a poet… thanks Catrina.
Jen,
1418, 1425.
As soon as you disgreed with Finns, you go the punch.
Plenty of previous examples. You do the research, cos it is your problem.
Will the Alaska Senate seat fall to the Dems?
An article up on the TPM puts the Democrate candidate ahead of the Republican 47%/45% (but within the margin of error of 4%).

An excellent piece about the damage that has been done to US security by the conservatives approach to foreign policy being continued by Bush and McCain -and that Obama is confronting head-on, to his great credit:
But if there is anything that has been discredited by history, it is the argument that every enemy is Hitler, that negotiations constitute appeasement, and that talking will automatically lead to a slaughter of Holocaust-like proportions. It is an argument that conservatives made throughout the Cold War, and, if the charge seemed overblown at the time, it seems positively ludicrous with the clarity of hindsight.

Obama is now demonstrating that he will be much more aggressive towards McCain than he was towards Clinton. No need for him to wear the gloves against the Repugs. How refreshing that’s going to be. He is showing his skill at turning attacks on him into a springboard to get his message out there. He is looking strong and substantial:
I thought it was generally shrewd and well-executed. It’s important in these situations not to whine at length about the cheap shot you’ve taken, but to swing back aggressively. Obama pretty much did that.

Jen – poor Flipper. I like swimming further north where the white pointers don’t think I’m a seal. Swam over two turtles in the Byron ‘big swim’ a couple of weeks ago. No sign of any lurking grey shapes thankfully.
