<a href="http://flindersranges.yourguide.com.au/news/local/news/general/independents-unite-to-support-brock-in-bid-for-byelection-glory/1408219.aspx" rel="nofollow">Independents unite to support Brock in bid for by-election glory</a>

Apparently Nick Xenophon and Kris Hanna are getting behind the Port Pirie independent, Geoff Brock. Xenophon got cited in one of the old threads on here (last SA election) as helping Hanna keep his seat as an independent after all his adventures, so this could get interesting.

Although there has been very little press about Frome, the public have been performing their civic duty. Obviously it's holiday time so there are lots of pre-polls and postals (record numbers) but I've noticed a trend in recent elections for increasing numbers of pre-polls and postals at a State level.

Perhaps I should actually look it up to see if my hunch is right instead of just mouthing off. I sometimes wish I wasn't so lazy...

[A record number of early and postal votes has poured into the South Australian Electoral Office in the lead up to the Frome by-election on Saturday.

Already 1,700 people have voted early while more then 2,200 postal votes have been sent out.

The Electoral Office says the response represents about 18 per cent of eligible voters and is the biggest response in any South Australian election.]

So Nats and Labor prefing Brock, and Greens not prefing anyone. I think it'll be Liberal v Brock, and hopefully Brock gets over the line on prefs.

I travelled through Frome just before Christmas and noted a large number of national party signs around towns such as Clare, Penwortham and Watervale - so it will be interesting to see how they poll on Saturday - could be some possibility of the Nationals running second I suppose, but I somehow doubt it.

Thanks for the info Michael!

First state by-election in 15 years, only 4 days away! I'm excited! One can only hope that Brock manages to get over the line on prefs.

The Nationals are running a Democrats-style split ticket. Brock gets their second preference, then they give voters a choice of Labor or Liberal for third.

Labor are giving their second preference to Brock (not that it should matter) and Brock is giving his second preference to the Nats.

I used to live in Port Pirie and Brock is popular. The combined Brock/Nat vote should go close to pinching second position and therefore possibly winning on preferences.
