Essential Research: 55-45 to Coalition
Despite having mostly come too early for the weekend’s excitement, the weekly Essential Research poll has moved away a point from the 54-46 stasis in which it had been locked since December 12, with the Coalition lead now at 55-45. Since Essential is a two-week rolling average, so that only half the poll was conducted over the previous week, this shift is more likely to be meaningful than it would from another pollster, although it’s probably still within the margin of error. Labor is down a point on the primary vote to 33 per cent with the Coalition up one to 48 per cent and the Greens up one to 11 per cent.
Despite the voting intention figures, a series of questions on substantive points of policy shows support for the government’s positions: 53 per cent support means testing the private health insurance rebate against 33 per cent opposed; 56 per cent support the National Broadband Network against 25 per cent opposed, respectively up two and down three since the question was last posed last April; and support for the mining tax is up four points since November to 55 per cent with opposition down five to 28 per cent.

I believe my description of Rudd as being a tratior are close to the mark
by victoria on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:02 pm
Let me tell you one thing, william.
As subbies, in the 90s till the 2000s, we didn’t fuck the headlines.
Sure, we joked. But we didn’t alter the text of an article.
I haven’t been employed in the industry since the early 2000s.
what I express on your blog in MY opinion.
that you keep trying to make out that I am some sort of liar about my previous profession, or to make out that I wasn’t very good at it, is all about you.
I don’t have to be neutral, like I did in my job, I’m just saying how it was.
And, how hard it was, when I didn’t agree with an article.
Anything else is my personal opinion.
Make fun of me all you like. Couldn’t give a toss.
And, if I make an assessment regarding you or Antony Green, it has nothing to do with my career as a sub.
You pretended the other night that your reaction to me was “disproportionate”. Pffft!
You were a dirty fkn arsehole to cleaners everywhere.
You don’t even have the integrity to apologise.
You’ve waited until you thought I made another mistake before you’ve sunk the boots in again. Just to let PBers know you didn;t make a mistake. But you did.
Today, you paid lip service to shit the other night.
You know what. Piss off William
You’re not worth my while, because you have no integrity.

With Crikey’s response time if the world ended, we would miss it.

I reckon Riley on Seven will be prepared to name the journalists (x 4) who have twice meet with Rudd where me outlined his two stage strategy to undermine the PM

The next newspoll will be crap for labor, so what? Nobody expects this to translate into good polls, and actually, at the moment, who gives a fig about the next poll, you intellectual midge.
by Puff, the Magic Dragon. on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:03 pm
Will Rudd get a nice post in the UN under an Abbott Government.
by rummel on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:04 pm
Well that’s encouraging isn’t it!
Abbott must be killing himself laughing.

Kezza, Bilbo is not a journo, he is a long term PhD student.
by The Finnigans on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:04 pm
Charming. So lets see how this timeline goes:
Apparently Rudd was loved by his colleagues and made no mistakes that caused people to question him. He didn’t concede that the Home Insulation Program was a shambles. He stood up for the BER which was made easy since he defended the HIP.
Then one day Gillard said he should postpone the CPRS but Rudd said no, it was important to push on because it was one of the great moral challenges of our time.
After months of no ads by the mining council and ever increasing poll leads for Labor, Gillard was tapped on the shoulder by Bitar and told to literally push a knife into Rudd’s back because it was a fun thing to do.
Aghast at Gillard’s treachery her colleagues all fell into line in supporting her. Huh? That doesn’t sound right. They all lashed out at her, but the faceless men soon put those poor Labor party members into their places.
The following day, the now dead body of Rudd held a press conference where he cried. The media were shocked because they were/are utterly useless.
Then the election was called. Gillard started out fine but in the 2nd week there was no leak by Oakes. The electorate, shocked by there being no leak ended up voting for a hung parliament.
Ever since Gillard has done nothing, passed no unpopular pieces of legislation and made every mistake in the book. The biggest mistakes being:
a) not sucking up to the media like the now rotten corpse of Rudd did
b) being a leader of a minority government
c) not being Abbott who is allowed to get away with basically anything
d) being a women
At the end of 2011, with the ALP back to 46% 2PP in the polls after being at 39% (in one Nielsen) looked like coming back to life.
But oh no, Gillard didn’t mention the skeleton of Rudd at the ALP conference. Then journalists spontaneously started talking about how bad the conference was for Gillard, and Rudd was not involved in that all.
Oh wait, it is now 2012. Journalists admit that the long dead spirit of Rudd talked to them and made fun of the evil Gillard. Gillard also got involved in a ‘Riot’ where many people lost their
shoeslives. After it was revealed to the media that Gillard had plotted this attack on Australia to make herself more popular, the media smelt blood. Yep, only at this point. Gillard made things worse by appearing on 4 Corners. A mistake no one else has ever made.By this point God decided things were getting too stupid and reanimated Rudd’s corpse and put his spirit back in it. He has been given the task of liberating the ALP, disposing of Gillard and sending the faceless men back to hell.
Will Rudd succeed? Will Gillard get an axe in her face like she so rightly deserves? Will the faceless men get faces? Will the media stay impartial?
Tune in next Monday when all will be revealed.

Sorry, but I disagree, Burke was flustered and all over the shop.
Toolman was smug, belligerent and rude.

Makes you wonder about that story that showed up on Vex not too long ago about how Hawker was pissed because Gillard cut off his access to the PM’s office, unlike Rudd.
by rishane on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:05 pm
Reports that Rudd didn’t advise the PM he was resigning. hardly good manners or good form.
TP, the PM has already moved on and appointed Emerson as FM.
Rudd has resigned because his numbers were going backwards. he needs something to sure up his support. I’m expecting a mountain of shit to be released on the PM by the Rudd forces.
by Greensborough Growler on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:05 pm
If what Richo is saying about a damning revelation on 7 tomorrow is true, could this be damage control by Rudd? Getting the sympathy vote before the bad news comes out? I’m starting to believe anything is possible.
by ajm on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:05 pm
Richo’s numbers game is now well and truly up

I can’t say I’m surprised that it failed utterly at a crucial period. This needs to be sorted more than the Labor leadership.
by triton on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:06 pm
touchy. I will give grace because it is a tough time for Team Gillard. We cant call it Team Labor any more because there is no Labor Team anymore.
by rummel on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:07 pm
rosemour,
Tony Burke was forthright. There was no prevarication and, certainly, no sweat or discomfort.
by This little black duck on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:08 pm
Probably not. But your neighbours and loved ones would get their pay and conditions cut. Celebrate!
by Cuppa on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:08 pm
Leaving aside other considerations – Crean really screwed the pooch the other day. What minister openly launches a broadside on another, least of all in a minority govt?
WTF? The absymal idiocies of modern labor. And you reckon the dysfunctions come exclusively from Camp Rudd? Lol.
No offence ALPistas, but your once great party is a complete &^%$# trainwreck.
If Abbott wasnt in charge of the Tories, Id almost conclude you had no chance in 2013.

rudd and howard seem to me to share some similar attributes , duplicity and power hunger. The PM deserves better.
by mickt on Feb 22, 2012 at 8:11 pm
Gillard is $1.30 to win the ballot (if there is one) but Rudd is favorite to lead to the election at $1.70. And Abbott is $1.30 to win the election.
What an absolute shambles. The voting public are not going to like this.

What is it with you lot at the UN job. Abbott, Gillard etc cannot influence UN jobs. Hilary Clinton perhaps but I really tire of the assumption here that it is somehow in the gift of the Aus government
Given the Palestine decision there will not be big jobs for Aussies
