Newspoll: 59-41 to Coalition
Word on Twitter is that Newspoll has the Coalition’s two-party lead out from 56-44 to 59-41, from primary votes of 27% for Labor (down two) and 51% for the Coalition (up three). But for a 26% result in the September 16-18 poll, this would be the lowest primary vote Labor had ever recorded since Newspoll commenced in 1985. The two-party figure ranks as the Gillard government’s equal worst result, along with the poll of September 2-4. Newspoll hasn’t always reported two-party preferred results, but my own calculations tell me there remain unbroken records from the respective honeymoon periods of Rudd (63-37 in February/March 2008) and Howard (60.5-39.5 in April 1996). Julia Gillard is up a point on disapproval to 63% and steady on approval at 28%, while Tony Abbott is down two on approval to 33% and up one on disapproval to 55%. Tony Abbott has widened the preferred prime minister lead he gained in the previous poll, from 41-39 to 41-36. As always, the sample for the poll was around 1150, with a margin of error of 3%.

Victoria more than likely but the real question is what relevance it has other than a distraction and some political spin. It will be interesting to see if this is anything more than a momentary bit of interest.

Yes. However the article in Fairfax specifically says third person was a staffer.

My Say
Sorry for not replying earlier.
Thought my head was going to explode & took off for an 8 klm walk.
Needed to clear the cobwebs & negativity.
Everyone throwing their hands up in panic. Dog help us if the party behave the same way & go to jelly.
If you are referring to the poll tweet I put up.
It was inferring that there are still a lot of undecided voters out there.
My opinion doesn’t count for much but my gut tells me the Coalition’s polling, though very high is a wee bit soft.
by Dee on May 1, 2012 at 5:41 pm
grantplant,
Love the long spoons with the hole down the middle. Slurp paradise!
by This little black duck on May 1, 2012 at 5:42 pm
Wasn’t it you who thought Slipper must have a rather largish dirt file?
Two can play at the leaking game.
Take notice of the alleged texts where Slipper’s questions Ashby’s allegiance.
How did Slipper know?
He’s not been round parliament for nigh on 30 years not to have a few allies.

the clock is ticking, the end is nigh for the Gillard experiment.
First phrase completely CORRECT; second phrase completely WRONG.

I am butting in to say i agree with you on feeling that the high numbers for the Coalition are soft. In fact I think that is the reason for all the negativity you are seeing. LOTS of heat and noise to try and hold poll numbers for Labor down.

I am assuming Slipper has his own dirt file. He may be a sleazy shifty character, but he does not seem stupid to me
by victoria on May 1, 2012 at 5:44 pm
I thought the article said Pyne left when Slipper returned so Slipper more than likely saw them sharing a drink.

Undoubtedly. However the article says the third person there leaked. That third person was another staffer not the Speaker.
by guytaur on May 1, 2012 at 5:46 pm
We are ‘on the same page’ TLBD.
I suspect this is what Slipper is up to. Come next Tuesday he may bring out a cold ‘slurpie’, our hollowed out spoon and then slowly, but surely, pull out from under his seat in Parliament a bucket of excrement and tip it all over the LOTO, Prissy et al.
Well that’s my fondest hope anyway.

Yes. There is worse though. It could have been two hours drinking with Mr Abbott.

Yes just like for Slipper and Thomson. So the media will get every sordid detail.
by guytaur on May 1, 2012 at 5:49 pm

by Boinzo on May 1, 2012 at 5:50 pm
The point I was trying to make earlier today (snipped by mgmt) was a correlation of what seems to be happening now.
It’s claimed that there were allegations against Slipper in 2003 – no follow-up by Libs or MSM;
Milne and Oakes were given details of alleged sexual harassment and predatory behaviour by another member of the (at the time) Govt. (whose name I’m not allowed to mention), but Libs and MSM didn’t follow it up;
Gretch soon ignored;
reports of Mirabella’s unscrupulous behaviour not followed up;
Reith’s $50,000 ph. bill, children overboard lies and disgraceful handling of the waterfront – all passed over quickly
Abbot’s reported alleged funding of getting Hanson into jail dismissed by MSM;
Senator charged, found guilty but mostly overlooked, and so on.
Then as soon as the very same behaviour is ‘alleged’ but this time the Libs see an opportunity to further destroy and devalue our democracy the whole world, it seems, is outraged. The Govt. must go. Julia must go.
And then, when it appears that Prissy has been having a few beers with some junior staff members in the Speaker’s office – in particular one who has only recently resigned from the Libs, to work for a Speaker who has resigned from the Libs and who Tony Abbot has told us he was trying to get rid of because he wasn’t fit for office – we pass it over dismissively.
Moving right along…
by IMOHO on May 1, 2012 at 5:50 pm
Abbott has a small penis davidwh, hence the scant information.

Super
Wernicke–Korsakoff syndrome is pretty rare now. Governments legislated that flour has to be fortified with thiamine in the 90s and that has dropped it a lot. There was some talk of adding thiamine to beer but I don’t know if it ever happened.
The first thing we do when an alcoholic comes in confused is give them thiamine.

Top moment on Capital Hill with Michelle saying wtte: “When I go to mothers’ groups I get such good feedback about the PPL.”
Mr trudge was completely out of the loop on that one, of course.
by This little black duck on May 1, 2012 at 5:51 pm
Dear Mr Pyne.
Your party says it will cut Govt waste if elected. Could you advise me of the costs of a member and a staffer having beers for 2 hours?
I am working on 150 members having drinks with 150 staffers. at say 8 beers a meeting a total of 1,200 cans of beer a day. Or about $2,000 a day on beer.
Is this acceptable and will you ensure staff drinks come to an end. Not to mention drinks with journalists.

Because there’s more to it than that possibly davidwh (1368)?
Like, who suggested to Prissy to wander down and have a chat? Or who suggested there may be funds to pay for expensive lawyers and PR people?
Was it someone from the LNP up north? Or someone else?
Hmmmm.

Once again, the thing which seems to have escaped the media is the link between Ashby and the 2003 conduct upon which he in part bases his claim.
Those allegations were kept in house by the Coalition, that seems to be uncontested. Ashby starts working for Slipper in 2011 or 2012. Unless he was told by someone within the LNP about the alleged 2003 conduct, how could he possibly know about it?
I mean, people can go looking for what they want, where they want in terms of alleging its a fix up. But surely one of the very bases for his claim is the best evidence something is afoot?

by guytaur on May 1, 2012 at 5:56 pm
Grandplant if people in the Liberal Party conspired to bring false allegations against Slipper them they deserve to be outed and dealt with and the Coalition deserves all the political fallout that goes with it but to allege that happened from what we know is really stretching things. But we will see what transpires.

Spot on Burgey @ 1382;
Unless Ashby used a Tardis to travel back in time how did he know all of this?
Oh! (slaps forehead) someone told him! Someone from the LNP? I agree with you.
It reeks of being a bit of an ‘own goal’ though. Then again with the LNP SNAFU. Amazingly our you beaut MSM has either not twigged it.
Or has decided not to.
