Newspoll and ACNielsen state by state

Newspoll’s state-by-state breakdowns are looking even noisier following the long-awaited narrowing, with Labor up in South Australia, down in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, and through the floor in Western Australia. The ACNielsen poll has the swings at 7.7 per cent nationally (compared with 4.8 per cent in Newspoll), 8.1 per cent in NSW [...]

Westpoll: mixed bag in Perth marginals

Westpoll brings results from four Perth seats with a combined sample of 1850. Cowan: ALP 47-LIB 53. Stirling: ALP 52-LIB 48. Hasluck: ALP 47-LIB 53. Swan: ALP 50.25-49.75. Graphic to follow.

Dress rehearsal 3

Okay, two simple options for those of you who want to chew some election eve fat. At the bottom we have a Meebo chat room as per the last two evenings (UPDATE – Not any more). Directly below we have the most beginner-friendly IRC interface known to man. Just type in your favoured nickname, hit [...]

ABC/Adelaide Uni poll: 51-49 in Boothby

ABC Adelaide has published a poll of 500 voters in Boothby, conducted by Adelaide University’s politics department, which has Liberal member Andrew Southcott leading Labor’s Nicole Cornes with 51.4 per cent of the two-party vote, compared with his 5.4 per cent margin from 2004. This figure was arrived at by asking voters about their preference [...]

Newspoll: 52-48

Sky News reports tomorrow’s Newspoll at 52-48. The Australian reports a sample size of 2614, but no primary votes. Normally you wouldn’t doubt the result with four polls telling you 52-48, 52-48, 54.5-45.5 and 57-43, but surely there’s some significance to the fact that the two closest polls of the year have come in the [...]

Morgan: 54.5-45.5

Roy Morgan has released a phone survey of 1670 voters including 1025 in hand-picked Coalition marginals. It shows Labor with an overall lead of 54.5-45.5 on two-party preferred, or 46.5 per cent to 40 per cent on the primary vote. The picture is somewhat better for the Coalition in the marginals, where the swing to [...]

Letters from the editor

From today’s editorials that I’ve seen (might get the Financial Review later), there’s a 4-3 split in favour of Labor with The Age sitting on the fence.
• The Daily Telegraph wouldn’t have come down on Labor’s side too often in its history, but today it argues Kevin Rudd is “the right man for these times”.
• [...]

Dress rehearsal 2

I’ve got an IRC channel #pollbludger open at Austnet, so I’d be keen for any of you IRC fans out there to jump on and road test it. The most helpful Davidoff offers the following advice to newcomers in comments:
For anyone unfamiliar with IRC – here are some suggestions on how to get going.

ACNielsen: 57-43

Not sure where he heard this, but the more than reliable Possum Comitatus hears tomorrow’s ACNielsen will show 55-45.
UPDATE: Now the Channel Seven News tells us it’s 57-43. Either ACNielsen or Galaxy are going to look at bit silly come Sunday.

Galaxy: 52-48

More than one commenter reports that Paul Bongiorno has indicated on the Channel Ten News has reported tomorrow’s Galaxy poll at “52-46”, a most unfortunately timed slip of the tongue. We will presumably know soon enough whether he meant 54-46 or 52-48.
UPDATE: Thanks to Adelaide readers for confirming it as 52-48.
