I hope Nelson wins. That would be delicious.

And GP @ 5: I'm better off than I was in 2007. Sorry to hear things aren't so good for you ;)

[...] Possum admires the Admiral’s fighting qualities and strategy: Catching everyone off guard, particularly Turnbull – having just flown in from his overseas jaunt – he has, if nothing else, at least put himself on the front foot. No one seems to know who has the numbers, there’s too many undecideds and waverers for each camp, so by pulling the trigger and going early he has forced a great big chunk of his party room to make up their mind, and make it up now. It’s high risk, but by controlling the timing of the spill Nelson has prevented Turnbull from being able to slowly build momentum in the party room over the next month or two, momentum that would have guaranteed Nelson defeat.
Poss,

Good note on the Night Watchman's ultimatium to the party. As you say timing is critical and if he has got it right Aqua Boy has been caught flat footed; those pesky memoirs of the "could have been" lose their appeal to a press gallery whose attention span is shorter than a goldfish.

I know we have talked about the Night Watchmen sacrificing himself to lead and regroup the party (like beazely prior to rudd), but maybe the NW has hit on a formula to focus a rabble that still thinks it is in power, but more importantly center debate where the liberals need to be to start shifting those magic polls.

Not wishing to eat my hat (I ain't got one) if I am wrong, but I for one would be prepard to sat that if NW gets this right I think he will take the liberals to the next election. If he gets real lucky he maybe able to shift some of the deadwood that has survuved by sucking up to the Rodent for years and start rebuilding from fresh talent.

A bold step from a pretty colourless character. I looove a gambler prepared to bet it all on one throw. (I bloody well wouldn't)

Generic Person

You should cease with the accusations of "dishonest" (no 5) and "absolute rubbish" (8).

Just because you may find the facts embarrassing (or whatever) does not mean you should impugn the messenger. Especially given your own claim of "dishonesty" is, at best wrong, at worst dishonest in itself.

The Age, 22 July 2007:

[John Winston Howard: The Biography, by academics Wayne Errington and Peter van Onselen, says cabinet members who approved the introduction of the laws in 2005 knew some workers would be disadvantaged.

However, the Prime Minister ruled out further changes because he was keen to have the legislation passed. Mr Howard wanted the laws bedded down well before this year's election.]

WorkChoices was a deliberate and premeditated attack on the pay, conditions and job security of employees. The cabinet knew workers would be worse off, and they went ahead in this full knowledge.
