Liberal Party Senator for South Australia Alan Ferguson has a proposal to revitalize Question Time. Let’s not kid ourselves here that his motives are anything other than opportunistic given his 11 years in government and nothing being done with QT during that period – but be that as it may, his recommendations would make for a better quality hour of power.

The Parliamentary Library has released two interesting research papers – The Rise of the Greens and a history of House of Representatives by-elections 1901–2008.

For anyone that’s been following George Megalogenis and his latest series of articles in The Oz over the tax/welfare issue, a new paper from the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research (via APO) titled “Churn” within the Australian tax and transfer systems of 2003/04 to 2008/09 might be worth a look.

Reader PsyPhi gave the heads up on an article over at the American Psychological Association called “Why do we Vote?” which is pretty interesting.
