Politics, elections and piffle plinking

Regular service will resume tomorrow

I’ve been moving house over the weekend and as a result a few posts have become a little delayed. Everything shall start flowing again tomorrow including the weekly Intrade roundup, Pollytrack and the Requestathon answers.

But I have discovered life’s biggest question – why is it that you never really comprehend how much crap you own until you have to pack it into boxes?

We moved a month ago. I feel your pain. And was with competent removalsists. There must be some law of stuff-ownership that says you will own as much stuff as can clutter the amount of spce you have available. Moving to bigger premises is only a bandaid solution because you will inevitably fill up the extra space with crap you don’t really need.

I think it’s because you don’t realise how much space is in your living quarters. Maybe they should advertise house sizes in terms of boxes rather than m squared? There’s also that wonderful Philip K Dick concept of “kipple”, random junk quietly multiplying when people aren’t around. Every time we move there just seems to be more of the damn stuff!

Moving is hell – pure hell. I’m still reeling from the horror of my last move 2yrs ago. So Mr P, you have my sympathies. You can even have a few more days off to recover (I suggest large volumes of quality alcohol to help with after-effects) but then it’s back to work here.. ok ;)

Why is it when you move you discover boxes from the last move (in my case 13 years ago) that have never been opened? If the stuff is so important why haven’t you looked at it in 13 years I ask? My solution throw it out. Solution of all the bloody bower birds I live with, retrieve it from the lane and take it to the new nest. One day it will all fall on us from the ceiling where it is stored and we will be buried in memories.
Is this the way I want to go?
    Do I have a choice?

My housemate neatly solved that problem for me a few weeks ago, by burning our house down.

    Seriously.

    Yes its true.

I cant put my finger on it but I remember someone doing standup about moving, finding all of this stuff you never knew you had, thought you threw out etc, then went on to say that it should be made a criminal penalty. “you know you pull a gun out and shoot three people, instead of going to jail, they should make you move house”.

Moving, rates for stress up there with divorce. From my experiences of it, it can come very close to causing that.

Have fun moving. Eagerly awaiting pollytrack with the last essential and newspolls.

For those who can’t wait for Possum’s commentary tomorrow, the latest charts are already up at his US Election page.
