Before we start, I’ve expanded the Newspoll Quarterly chart page so it now contains 27 charts for each quarterly release as well as a further 10 historical charts that go back as far as 1996. That’s a bit too many to go through here, so please feel free to browse at your leisure.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch – it’s the Everybody Loves Our Political Leaders show!
It’s rare that such an outburst of satisfaction happens from the public, but over the last 3 months, despite every media outlet in the country shouting from the rooftops that the world is going to shit in a hessian bag, the public has become disturbingly happy with both the Government and the Coalition.
No demographic, no state, no region has been sparing the love. While I’m sure it bodes well for world peace, sadly we wont be taking part in this outbreak of hand holding, Kum Ba Yah singing Age of Aquarius nonsense.
Thanks for the intro Cookie, so let’s look at these four things.
First – the primary vote swing of the ALP by State.
Second – the primary vote swing of the Coalition by State.
Third – the ALP TPP vote swing by State – pay close attention to the NSW figure.
And finally, Dennis Shanahan’s latest column.
One of these things is not like the other, as the furry blue guy says. Rudd has a “huge problem” in NSW apparently because the Coalition and the ALP have gone backwards in their primary vote since the election (although he neglects to mention the former), the minor party vote has jumped and the ALP has had a swing towards them on a TPP basis since November last year (also conveniently overlooked)
Which leads us into the numbers everyone probably wants to look at, the two party preferred headline vote by State and city type.
Overall, the quarterly national two party preferred was 56/44, the same as the previous quarter.
Later today or tomorrow we’ll run these new numbers through our election simulation and see what pops up.
