We love having you comment here at Pure Poison but it’s a little bit difficult for discussion to continue uninterrupted on specific posts when off-topic comments land in the middle of them. So each day we’ll launch an open thread where you can leave comments that don’t quite fit on one of the other posts. Remember that tip-offs can be made here.
Have at it!

FINALLY!
Abtez’s possible role in utegate has finally twigged with the media questions about him were raised on this blog at the weekend, so the MSM in typical fashion is lagging several days behind the blogosphere.
I note that both Connex and Yarra Trams have lost the re-bid for the trains and trams in Melbourne.
poor things.
Hi confessions,
I still get the feeling that the politicians involved will keep their jobs and Grech will end up being the fall-guy for all of this….I’m not sure if he’s done anything illegal, but I suspect his career as a public servant is about to end.
Thing is skeptic, the only way to make money out of Public Transport is to not spend any. Look forward to more of the same.
The only solution is to buy it back.
“The only solution is to buy it back.”
Absolutely right, Rob.
Public transport should be exactly that — not a run-for-profit business venture. It should be government owned and run and fares should only be enough to cover outlays.
the rightwing extremists continue to be isolated from public opinion:
good on the Greens for their private members bill – at least there’s one political party willing to show principled stand on equality.

I feel the exact same way about education and health. Opt out, go for it, but don’t use my money for your options.
That $3b per year that is used to subsidise private health care should be going into medicare. Schools that have boat sheds on the Yarra shouldn’t get any public money.
“good on the Greens ”
Absolutely, any true Lefty would vote for the Greens before the right of centre Australia Labor Party.
GavinM: you might be right, but my feeling is Turnbull’s position as leader will eventually become untenable if it hasn’t already. Even the Liberal party’s propaganda outlet The Australian seems to be against him judging from the stories and headlines they ran with this morning. and once you see reports of “senior liberals distancing themselves” from turnbull you know the game’s just about up.
Hi confessions,
Certainly some of them will be sharpening the knives, I guess it’s just a question of wether any of them think they have the numbers to make a challenge – I doubt that he’ll resign of his own accord over this, but as you say, he may well get the shove.
