Open thread 6 July ‘09

We love having you comment here at Pure Poison but it’s a little bit difficult for discussion to continue uninterrupted on specific posts when off-topic comments land in the middle of them. So each day we’ll launch an open thread where you can leave comments that don’t quite fit on one of the other posts. Remember that tip-offs can be made here.

Have at it!

gavinM: we did good over in perth, even though we looked less like the Navy Blues than the Buttercup Yellows! whose bloody idea was that?!

confessions – something to do with lance armstrong and cancer (good reminder with what happened to Pratt). At least it was better than the M+M Blues outfit we wore in the 90’s.

Who is ‘we’? I bet ‘we’ aren’t as good as those Footscr…. ooops I mean Western Bulldogs that you were rubbishing recently? ;)

Ashes starts Wednesday – In Cardiff boyo!

“must go back to watching the footy show”

Hmmmmmmm, don’t do it! Besides, it clashes with the cricket and Le Tour.

“We” are the most successfull footy team in the AFL Rob. incidentally, when did the Bulldogs last win a premiership? ;-)

yes, returning to the footy show would be a big mistake, I should just watch marngrook instead.

And I’ll be watching the cricket too. One thing about England gets me: why is the team still called England and not UK or something more inclusive?

    Hi confessions and DBoP,

It was a great effort by the Blues – (Buttercups ? ;) ) – wasn’t it…They’re making me tear what’s left of my hair out though, they don’t turn up one week against Essendon then try their guts out the next !

    Hi Rob,

The Bullies did well, but we still fixed you up last time we met ;)

Can’t wait for The Ashes to start, but I don’t have Pay-tv so I don’t think I’ll get to see it — or is it being televised free-to-air somewhere ?

“why is the team still called England and not UK or something more inclusive?”

That’s a good question confessions — I can only think they’re just going with tradition. Mind you when they have the limited overs World Cup, Scotland and Ireland field their own teams ..(not sure about Wales)…so maybe its something to do with that ?

I knew you’d say that, living in the past, that’s what you’re doing confessions!!!!! ;)

It’s actually England and Wales Cricket Team, Scotland have their own team. When England last won the Ashes one of the players that inflicted the damage was a Simon Jones, Welsh BOYO, never played since????

Cricket being the national game of Englans and Rugby Union the game of Wales we don’t actually mind not being named everytime the English (and Welsh) cricket team is mentioned. ;) , Well, I don’t mind.

Ashes will be on SBS One with the TDF on SBS Two when the cricket is on.

If they are going to be inclusive in the ‘England’ team they need to count that South African p#$%k Peterson. He had to get a Tatt to prove his English-ness.

LOL, the present and recent past hasn’t been too kind to us – who can blame me?

England and Wales cricket team? I didn’t know that, i just thought it was the ECB ie england only.

Simon Jones was great last time (won an MBE for his effort apparently), but he got injured before the India test tour a few years ago and i don’t think he’s played since then.

You play for who ever will have you. Isn’t Andrew Symonds English? Fortunately for him he was good enough for the Aussies.

Robert Croft is Welsh too, Gerraint Jones however, you’d think he was Welsh?? From Wiki:

“is an England cricketer of Welsh extraction but raised in Australia. ”

“(won an MBE for his effort apparently)”

Yeah, that was pretty sad, How come Warney hasn’t got a gong?

Thanks DBoP and Bertus — looks like some late nights coming up for yours truly.

I’m living in the past too Rob and confessions — every now and then I put on the 1995 Grand Final video to remind myself of when we had a good side :P

Mind you Rob, at least I can watch our last premiership — are you able to say the same ? ;P

Lol — real footy Rob, not that boring pretend game – actually, aren’t Chelsea known as the Blues over there ? and if so, why aren’t you a Carlton supporter ;) I sort of follow Liverpool, I think because they had the first Australian player to go over there, Craig Johnson — well, first that I know of anyway.

“I can’t watch it because Australia didn’t have TV before 1987.”

    :) Touche !!

I’m going to be in heaven for the next month or so — footy and cricket on tv at the same time, it’s a good thing my wife’s in Thailand for a few weeks – last time this happened she was threatening to ring a divorce lawyer….

Hey Bertus… I never mentioned a premiership (that would be a big mozz!). It was a great game, and even more amazing on the replay. I don’t know how either team kept up such intensity for four quarters. But I fear that I may die of a massive heart attack one day while I’m watching the footy.
