Open thread 7 July ‘09

We love having you comment here at Pure Poison but it’s a little bit difficult for discussion to continue uninterrupted on specific posts when off-topic comments land in the middle of them. So each day we’ll launch an open thread where you can leave comments that don’t quite fit on one of the other posts. Remember that tip-offs can be made here.

Have at it!

    Tim plays the usual denialist game: cold in Melbourne & Sydney today therefore there’s no AGW.

    they are obviousy running out of reasons: using winter temperatures (let alone temp change over 3 years) to claim the earth isn’t warming is desperate. Quiggin has a useful looooooong term graph that tim might find interesting. 3 years? Pffft!

    In the newsfeed bar at the bottom on Sunrise, Channel 7’s morning show, they quoted the Chinese suppression of the Uighur’s as “Muslim riots”.

    Perhaps, in isolation they are, but surely the Uighur’s are being suppressed, and why not quote is a “Uighur Riots”?

    Channel 7 news last night (I only watched it because my Mum wanted to) didn’t even mention the unrest. They had far more important things to report, so important that I can’t even remember them. Probably something about a footballer or football.

    Channel 7 broadcasts news for ignoramuses, they always have, Channel 9 and Ten are equally shit, at least Ten doesn’t bother trying to pretend that it’s serious.

    I love my Mum, that’s why I let her watch Channel 7’s shit in my house. Both my “Nan’s” are loooooooooooooooong gone. I was mereley pointing out that Channel 7 is crap! You’re welcome to take a contrary view, in fact please do!

    To be fair to my mother she resides in NZ, she wasn’t to know that Channel 7 is rubbish, I guess she knows now, it’ll be the Simpsons tonight until SBS & ABC’s news bulletins.

    BTW – Where did I write that my mother is an ignoramus? Oh, that’s right I didn’t, you just made that bit up so you’d have something to post……….. sad!

    Come on, Rob. Let’s be honest, you did. You said that your Mum wanted to watch Channel 7, and did so, and that Channel 7 is broadcast for ignoramuses. It doesn’t take an ABC News viewer to realise that unless your Mum is doing a study on the media consumption of ignoramuses, she probably is one. Unless you’re wrong, and normal people going about their normal lives might sit down and enjoy the news not knowing or caring that a bunch of holier-than-thou heroes are judging them because of their choices.

    You know you wrote it, which is why you backed it up with the ol’ “me mum just stepped off the plane from NZ and doesn’t know any better” routine.

    As for me making stuff to just to post a comment. I don’t sit here all day trawling blog sites hoping to chime in with a bucket-load of self-righteous commentary to anyone who’ll bother to read. I’m not Confessions.

    Do me, Channel 7, and most importantly your Mum a favour and sit down and watch it with her tonight. And when they’re rolling the credits, interrupt with some late breaking news: “I love you, Mum.”

    It’ll be a triumph!

    RobJ: Channel 7 broadcasts news for ignoramuses, they always have, Channel 9 and Ten are equally shit, at least Ten doesn’t bother trying to pretend that it’s serious.

    the commercial FTA channells just get news all wrong. I’ve just watched ABC news and their top 10 stories for tonight were:

    * Min wage that merged into debt truck and labor’s truck outside turnbull’s electorate office.
    * Obama in Russia and meeting medvedev and Putin
    * Michael Jackson burial
    * the death of former US secretary of defence from the 60s, McNamara
    * Uighurs protests
    * twin deaths in Perth
    * Sydney harbour boat / fishing boat crash
    * Greg Bird girlfriend breaks down
    * Strobe lighting OHS issue in the tunnel on the Epping – Chatswood rail line
    * Indonesian elections

    If I’d watched channells 7 or 9 i reckon the order would’ve been:

    * Greg Bird girlfriend breaks down
    * Michael Jackson burial
    * human skull washes up on northern beaches
    * twin deaths in Perth
    * harbour boat crash
    * rail line strobe lighting (complete with railcorp driver “speaking out” about their being affected)
    * Debt trucks and the min wage
    advert
    * Obama in Russia
    * maybe something about Indon elections (they are our neighbours after all)
    What’s coming up in sport

    I disagree with you about channell 10 because at least it’s 1 hour whereas the other 2 are only 30 mins. Most nights your lucky to get 2 world news stories on 7 and 9 whereas channel 10 gives viewers longer time and more stories.

    Why anyone would watch news on channels other than the ABC or SBS is completely beyond me.

    no, you just pop in having never before commented here and attack other people’s families calling them ignoramuses and willfully misrepresenting what they say.

    I’m not Confessions.

    no your right there. I have never attacked people’s families and can’t envisage a situation on this blog where it would be appropriate – it’s called decorum.

    which extremist blog has linked to this site that has delivered us two ranting abusive trolls in two days?
