Open thread 16 July ‘09

We love having you comment here at Pure Poison but it’s a little bit difficult for discussion to continue uninterrupted on specific posts when off-topic comments land in the middle of them. So each day we’ll launch an open thread where you can leave comments that don’t quite fit on one of the other posts. Remember that tip-offs can be made here.

Have at it!

Interesting that those who defended Steve Fielding’s about face on AGW as being entitled to change his mind, are the same people now calling Garrett a hypocrite.

Just a note that there’s an interesting (and public) disagreement going on between The Age and On Line Opinion about an article Lee Rhiannon wrote.

Democrats see groveling to each other. It really is a sickening sight and even though I have a strong stomach seeing the Dems in action I have to say this one made me reach for the bucket.

This may be interesting….. or more importantly, the analysis provided by Bolt et al will be interesting … http://www.theage.com.au/news/entertainment/tv–radio/liberal-legacy/2009/07/15/1247337156552.html

Why does the Left hate so much?

That’s a good and thoughtful question tobs.

I think would have to do with the totalitarian bent of most leftists. The desire to compel people to submit to their ideas or ostracize them if they disagree. In certain ways it has a cult like mentality where faith is more important than reality.

It’s also the lies, tobs. The lies they have to tell people in order for them to try and push their programs through.

A thoughtful person could write a long book on the hatred of the left and the reasons why.

Thanks for bringing it up and perhaps you could think about turning that into a thread.

I was wondering why Andrew Bolt had not made any comment thus far over the latest bashing in the city.

You know, it ticks some of the boxes that would ignite a Bolt article.

    Ethnics
    Violence

But, then I remember that yesterday he posted this story that stated that violence is going down, not up!!!

So, in order not to get offside with his minions, best to ignore it.

    Yes?

    (bait taken)

“In certain ways it has a cult like mentality where faith is more important than reality.”

    Interesting tee.

What about the “cult like mentality” and “group think” of the Right?

A “cult like belief” in the magic of the unrestrained free market and the invisible hand to solve all the worlds ills.

An almost religious belief in the power of “innovation” and human ingenuity to solve any problems that the glorious invisible hand fails to solve for us.

An irrational and cornucopian attitude to peak oil, peak phosphorous and AGW, and a failure to understand natural limits to growth.

    Why?

Do the majority of conservatives have a better scientific education than the Left, do they all (like Andrew Bolt) undertand the science of climate change or peak oil better than trained atmospheric/environental scientists and geologists?

Or are they (for the most part) taking a position based on political ideology and tribalism? ie that AGW, peak oil and any environmental issues are “of the left”, therefore nonsense.

Coincidence, or “cult like groupthink” tee?

“It’s also the lies, tobs. The lies they have to tell people in order for them to try and push their programs through.”

So the Right don’t lie tee? What about the WMD’s, GST, Gitmo, Children overboard, AWB, Dr Haneef, ute gate, fake emails both SA and federal Liberals etc etc..

BTW, your arguments sound very farmiliar tee. Did you you used to post on blair/boltwatch, or is it just more “righty groupthink”? :)
