Here’s something for the weekend: Jack of Speed by Steely Dan. I always think of Andrew Bolt when I hear the lyrics. Perhaps it’s the line in the second verse: ” …that right-wing hooey sure stunk up the joint…”.

The finger wrote on the wall Friday morning, Krudd is going to appear on Alan Jones, Insighters, ray hadley, uncle tom cobley and all. Then Midnight’s deformed child is semi sacked, now barely the Minister for Furry Feelings.
How’s that feel, arsehole? You were comprehensively screwed by Labour exchanging preferences with the tories, nats & fred niles in 1984 to keep you out of parliament as the NDP Senator and a quarter century later you take their shilling, to do their shilling. CroSs the floor, show some spine, do something. HEY, HOW ABOUT RESIGNING? To paraphrase Cromwell, “you’ve sat too long, go now”.

Does anybody know how many free complimentary copies of the Hereald sun are distributed around the place.

I have seen some freebies around Canberra.

It all concerns me as I would like to think that Andrew Bolt is such a strong selling point that there would be no need to rely on artificially boosting the Herald Sun’s circulation – presumably to improve advertising revenues for the paper :)

Bolt, Feb 21st., explains to us that the Arctic sea-ice didn’t melt, it was pushed out.
New Scientist on 26th Feb. shows Bolt’s “clever” sleight-of-hand, covering up the fact that it was melting all along.

PM Changes Direction on Climate, screeches the headline at The Awfulstralian…..errm, except there’s nothing in the article that comes anywhere near the suggestion that there might be a major rethink on the nation’s response to global warming. It’s just another little squeak n the paper’s continuing War on Science.

Hamiltons pieces for the Drum this week were a great insight into the deniasaur side of the argument. While at times I think he may have let a bit of frustration and emotion creep into some of his comments and conclusions it provided an excellent overview of the who, what and motivations of denial land and debunked some of their myths. It is also ironic that the volume and content of comments to his pieces actually backed up the assertions Hamilton made. Mike Steketee also has a good straight forward article in today’s Australian that reinforces that no matter what disinformation or scuttlebutt is spread surrounding climate change, the deniasuars have failed to provide any real rebutal of the existing science.

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/opinion/sceptics-derail-climate-action/story-e6frgd0x-1225834650070

I see that next week the Drum is giving the deniasuars a right of reply, it will be interesting to see if there is anything of substance(I have serious doubts), or just the usual disinformation, conspiracy theories, as well as unsubstantiated personal attacks and smears.

While opinion polls(real ones, not the online UK Tabliod ones) still constantly show around 70% still believe in MMGW and climate change and around 15-20% who don’t, this debate still has a long way to go. I want the deniasuars represented by their tabloid journalists, former TV weathermen, kids TV presenters, opinionistas from UoEBC and the Peter Foster of the British Aristocracy as it will only diminish the credibility of their case.

Its interesting that most news polls including the dodgy News Ltd ones show that the percentage of people that threw out the coalition has not dipped once below 2007 election result.

That means that those same people that saw through the Coalition then and Abbott as being no better than Howard still see through them despite the copious media bias.

These people represent a generation that may never vote for the Libs.

If their short term scorched earth approach doesn’t work the Libs might be finished

The Drum is going to ‘balance’ Clive Hamilton’s articles on denialism last week with the following people writing this week: Alan Moran, Tom Switzer, Mark Hendriks, Bob Carter and Jo Nova.

Also in Green’s article is this:

The series of stories has thus far attracted nearly 3500 reader comments, a tally that continued to grow in a still-vigorous comment strings.

But the most spirited responses have been in the blogosphere.

This is why I reckon Murdoch’s strategy of paywalling his material is a loser in the long term. You are missing out on the engagement of your content with the wider blogosphere (“websites” for Dennis Shanahan) that keeps you relevent. People don’t discuss or circulate material they can’t access or don’t know about.

MackieMesser – the mystery to me is why anyone with more than three functioning synapses would think that the MM & his undead Unlovelies would be anything other than Rodent Exhumed. He did after all claim to be the live child of Bronny & Rodent, not just miscegenation but bestiality methinks.

Does Andrew the typist really believe this?

This morning at 12:03am “Damn. Just when I try to do the noble thing and give Tim Lambert credit”

this is the credit he gave Tim:

“Computer scientist Tim Lambert may be vituperative, deceptive, a cherrypicker, an ideologue, a misrepresenter and a Manichean conspiracist only too keen to smear a sceptic as a crook who lies for Exxon’s dollars. Oddly enough, he seems to have restrained his worst and most suspect traits to offer Lord Monckton a genuine debate at last.”

Gee would like to see what he really thinks.

"Australia changes Israel vote in UN "

    http://www.theage.com.au/national/australia-changes-israel-vote-in-un-20100228-pb7m.html

Hmmm, I read the article and there is this:

“where it has been one of Israel’s strongest supporters – Australia abstained from a resolution demanding that Israel and the Hamas authorities in Gaza investigate possible war crimes during Israel’s assault on Gaza in 2008.”

So they abstained, they (we) didn’t actually have the balls to change our vote. Ah well, it’s a start I suppose though why wouldn’t we demand that Hamas and Israel investigate allegations of war crimes?

BTW I’m going to copy this to the weekly thread when it’s created.
