Intellectual dishonesty is pure poison – A Crikey weblog

New Comment Policy

Here at Pure Poison we have always striven to provide a forum for meaningful discussion on the state of the Australian media, its personalities and the subjects that they cover. As a part of this we make a great deal of effort to interact with the commenters who come here and engage in the discussions, as we believe that the community who support the site bring varied and interesting perspectives. That being said, every blogger takes the time to look around the blogosphere to identify new ideas or trends that may improve their own site, and as such I’d like to share with you a new comment policy that I plan to trial.

There will be no changes to the way that comments are moderated, however when it comes to responding to them I’m planning to follow Piers Akerman’s excellent innovation from earlier today. Here’s an example of what I mean.

Picture 11.png
Picture 13.png
Picture 12.png

So, for the entirety of this thread I plan to copy and past the same response to any comment that I feel warrants a reply. I may personalise my comment occasionally, but I can’t be bothered individualising my responses beyond that. So comment on whatever you like, I don’t really mind if comments in this thread are completely off topic, you’ll be getting a canned response either way.

Can you also make a bit of an effort to be as insulting as Piers, Dave. I think you’re far too nice.
    Something like this:
You would be surprised because you are a halfwit. I can easily believe that you live in a state of constant surprise. As for your attempt to denigrate me, I suggest you try and speak to a few Labor MPs yourself. You will find that Rudd has no friends in the parliamentary party, that most Labor MPs think he’s a jerk. The Howard government is hardly discredited – it has set a new benchmark globally for fiscal management. You obviously missed Wayne Swan’s tribute to the Howard reforms which he delivered to an audience of central bank chiefs in Sydney this past week. So, you are ill-informed, you don’t know what people in the party you support think of the leader you promote, and your understanding of events is minimal. Why do you bother?

That makes your responses to Iain Hall and Shabadoo seem almost genteel.

Oh wow, I thought at first this was just a technical boo-boo, accidentally re-submitting the same comment a few times like older computer uses often do. But then I looked at the Pies blog, and yeah he used that three separate times to three different people. What a douche!

I believe that it is true that socialism is on the rise, encouraged by gay homosexualist feminists who have infiltrated our government at its most senior levels in order to foment a hatred of family and the traditionalist family values families value. Also, to force babies into daycare where they will be taught about Chairman Mao and to pollute their precious bodily fluids with Communiserum™ that will make them gay and want to wear studded leather nappies and blow up our churches and worship Satan.

The fact that those of you on the left cannot see this and recognise the threat to the values of families that families value is simply proof that you are all family hating fairies.

It is a pity that you are unable to grasp these simple truths, however incontinent you may find them to be. We should be grateful of Mr Akerman for his efforts to stop these helicopters.

On a serious note, Piers has a point regarding the abominable treatment regarding Peter Gray.

What if we progressives took up the cause?
What if we wrote to our members, got GetUp involved and generally made some noise about it?

If we could get some action on this case, it would help bring justice to Peter Gray and have the added bonus of giving Piers the shits!

This thread reminds me of the old guy who used to sit up the back of the Clyde Hotel in Carlton who used to ramble random bits of poetry every few minutes in the hope to get a beer out of some uni student. I think he got killed in a fire in the fruit shop in Lygon Street. I don’t think it had anythig to do with insulation as the Howard government was in power then. Power then was all coal generated, none of this new age green stuff. Speaking of green stuff have i told you about the old guy who sat in the Clyde Hotel in Carlton. I think he used ot smoke green stuff. You know smoke is a funny word in relation to him because he died in a fire in a fruit shop in Lygon Street.

Your comments appreciate me, and I agree with your observatories about our descendence into moral turpentines. It is most certainly true that the great Steve Irwin put our country on the atlas (we are down the bottom parts). It is a fact (I have goggled it) that he was simply a tragic victim of the vast Chinese communist conspiracy and was murdered by a radio controlled stingray operated by Harold Holt from a Cuban submarine.

However, I am a more than a little disturbed by your offer to “cop a feel of my gravitas” and feel that maybe you are a troll who has been directed by Mr. Gaukroger (which is a muslin name if ever I heard one and I am sure he wears a blanket over his head to conceal bombs – please note the beard) to seduce me with flatteries so that you may inflict unnatural and socially inappropriate preversions upon my heterosexual protuberances.

    Hi lefties!

Here’s how one of your beloved Labor MPs managed to increase supermarket prices in one of the poorest areas in Australia. This is my email to him.

Sandy Bay is like Double Bay, everywhere else is like where you would never go without a police escort, yeah?

    “Dear MP Kerr

Some while ago I wrote to you regarding the Rudd government
GroceryWatch scheme. I thought it was terrible (and it was) but after
reading your response I realised that your Denison Pricewatch was
actually rather good. Since that time I’ve written about how your
various “watch” schemes have helped consumers rather than hindered them.

And, as a quick example of how a “watch” scheme can hinder rather than
help, the Rudd Grocerywatch was never going to give the prices for local
shops, so people consulting that site would never realise that their
local shop had really good prices on fruit, veg, milk and bread. And as
such, GroceryWatch disadvantaged small local shops. Obviously this
wasn’t the case with your Pricewatch as it included smaller independent
    retailers.

Having said that I am concerned about your “insistence” that
supermarket chains like Coles have the same pricing across their many
stores within Tasmania. Due to your efforts in this area Coles has
introduced “same pricing across Tasmania” (28 Jan 2010).

The problem is, they increased the prices in their cheaper
    supermarkets to match the more expensive one in Sandy Bay. As an aside;
what exactly was wrong with people in one of the most, if not the most
affluent suburb in Tasmania paying $2 more than the folk in Glenorchy or Bridgewater?

I went checking prices today. I used the exact items that you
presented in your latest Pricewatch ’09. It’s clear that although your
focus was on mainland prices versus Tasmanian prices you were not happy
with inter-region price differences. The results are not good.

Obviously, some prices have gone up and some down. So I calculated
difference scores on items that you presented in your last Denison
Report as being variable between suburbs. (a negative is a price
decrease, a positive a price increase).

Basically, Coles have increased their prices in the poorer areas of
Denison to match the more affluent areas.

I’m really rather unhappy about this. If you’re so inclined perhaps
you might comment before I write this up for national release?

    Yours
    Joel B1

    Appendix A

Item Glenorchy Sandy Bay New Town
    Apples -$0.75 -$1.00 -$0.75
    Eggs -$0.14 -$0.29 -$0.14
    Peas -$0.06 -$0.31 -$0.06
    Cocoa Pops $0.90 $0.90 $1.60
    Coffee $2.07 $1.15 $2.07
    Margarine $0.28 $0.25 $0.25
    Cat Food $0.10 $0.10 $0.20

    INCREASE $2.40 $0.80 $3.17″

And that’s a small basket. But let’s face it you lefties don’t give a shit. It’s all latte sipping heaven for you, despite having to bitch about the opposition rather than the government.
