The “most-read political blog in Australia”

Andrew Bolt has left his readers that cryptic message, and little else today. Gone is yesterday’s post where he quoted at length from Glenn Milne’s article that had been pulled from The Australian. Gone too is the post from Saturday that said:
On Monday, I’m tipping, a witness with a statutory declaration will come forward and implicate Julia Gillard directly in another scandal…
It’s all a bit reminiscent of the time that Andrew suddenly turned off comments on his blog after they brought him some unwanted attention. But whether things will return to ‘normal’ at the Southbank Jester’s blog is something that we’ll have to wait to find out.
Update: After a dozen or so hours of weighing up principles and keeping the faith, Andrew has announced that he’ll fill us all in tomorrow. I’m sure that everyone is as relieved as I am.

Do you think he finally “went too far”? I noted with interest yesterday afternoon that the link in the SMH to Milne’s’ article in the OZ still worked – i.e. I got to see the article – should have copied it.
Here’s hoping Andrew does one of two things…. disappears altogether in a legal quagmire never to be heard from again, or decides to “print” something which results in him disappearing in a legal quagmire never to heard from again….
Interesting. It appears at the moment (after a quick skim) that there are two sorts of responses to this thread.
(1) “You have principles?!?”
and
(2) Various expressions indicating that the poster has absolutely no idea what happened yesterday and wanting AB to explain his “cryptic” message. Could it be that these people really do receive ALL of their news from that one place? That’s worrying, to say the least.
Probably Gillard’s secret police at work again – this is the most disgraceful thing that’s ever been done to democracy!
“I’ve been told but cannot confirm” that he’s standing for the Liberals in the seat of Lalor at the next election. He reckons he can do a Maxine and unseat a sitting Prime Minister, since smearing her out of office hasn’t worked.
Could have something to do with this:

Also on Saturday, Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt devoted part of his blog to ”A tip on something that may force Gillard to resign”. It began: ”On Monday, I’m tipping, a witness with a statutory declaration will come forward and implicate Julia Gillard directly in another scandal involving the misuse of union funds.”
Bolt wrote that he was not at liberty to reveal the contents of the statutory declaration, but added ”I suspect a friend of mine in the media will be authorised to release it first”.
Ms Gillard contacted Mr Hartigan on Sunday to ask whether Bolt or another journalist was planning to revisit the story, and after he made inquiries at the Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph, she was assured there were no such plans.
But Mr Hartigan did not check with The Australian. And no one at The Australian, apparently, saw the legal danger in a paragraph beginning ”what the lawyers would not allow to be reported was …”
Weighing up principles sounds like the prelude to dropping a few of them… or it would do if he had any to begin with.
And faith to keep? The Dark Lord?
“this is the most disgraceful thing that’s ever been done to democracy!”
At least since the Gillard secret police stopped the Convoy of Incompetence at the border.
You know none of the truckers detained at the border have been seen since, don’t you?
(truth is none were seen before they were stopped either but…)
In my esteemed opinion – the Sun pulled Bolt’s posts behind his back, so he throws a tantrum and refuses to blog about politics until he’s given total autonomy. No doubt it will all result in a self-righteous column about how the PM tried to “silence” him.
Seems like Bolt was never told “no” enough as a child.
“No politics until further notice. Potential defamation action to defend. News Limited job to try and keep.”
Alan @ 4, I hope he does stand because;
one – he’ll never get in, and
two – he’ll open himself up for the mother of all “fact based” smear campaigns! LOL
Australian PATRIOTS know the socialist agenda of Julia Hussein Gillard MUST BE STOPPED!!!
Won’t some Aussie PATRIOT do the right thing?
“No politics until further notice. Potential defamation action to defend. News Limited job to try and keep.”
LOL! Pretty close to the mark i reckon.
Alan Shore @4
While false, there may be some truth in that suggestion. I personally don’t believe it to be true, of course. But it raises questions about judgement – how could he work for the ALP in the 80′s, given what happened this week?
Claims about the intelligence of this response are frequently exaggerated.
Please don’t, Duncan. There are too many idiots saying that sort of thing without a single iota of irony…
Apparently yesterday someone posted a pic of the house he grew up in. Maybe he’s having a midlife crisis.
Tomorrow his blog will say:
“I’ve wasted my life, and am off to Goa to live in an Ashram and take Eckkies with the Orange People.”
The last line in The Age article is hilarious:
MoC @ 13, LOL!
A friend of mine in the media has reliably informed me that the numbers are being counted as we speak (I’m not sure why, but they are). Speaking of numbers, The Bore Repore:
103,000 (rpt 77,000)
Insiders ABC1 193,000 (ABC24 47,000)
Oh dear.
@ravenred.
Maybe I need to stop reading the comments on right wing blogs for a while, its obviously starting to get to me
EKDV @ 16, oddly enough about half an hour ago the same para read:
Makes you wonder how much quiet revision of online media occurs every day.
It would appear Messrs Hartigan and Mitchell have become somewhat sensitive to the views of our Prime Minister. I wonder if that has anything to do with the possibility of an enquiry into the activities of News Corp in Australia?
So if Andrew Bolt gets the sack from News, can he have a job at Crikey?

It gets better. Here’s a little graph I’ve done up: http://i.imgur.com/eyFgj.jpg
Sources: OzTAM, Nielsen 2001 Survey #5.
perhaps Hartigan will enlist the services of a very proactive Private Investigator to get to the bottom of this pathetic ruse, Bolt predicts it will happen Milne submits his crap Hartigan says I overlooked the OZ,what was the role of the tooth fairy in all this?LTIPM.
Man, I wish I’d been spidering Andys website already.
On reflection 3 strikes and your out! Bring on the Media Inquiry Prime Minister, start with the question of Collusion?
Rich Uncle Skeleton @8
I agree.
This is the best thing in the history of the internets.
What concersn me is the number of posters who plead almost tearfully for Andrew to explain/not abandon them/ to keep up the good fight – clearly he is their self appointed guru – but to read some of the posts one would think they now would be condemned to living in darkness and ignoorance for the rest of their days — which when you come to think of it his fans actually do
Awesome.
Yeah. Stick up for the downtrodden – kick out the reffos! It’s a traditional value, damnit!
“What concersn me is the number of posters who plead almost tearfully for Andrew to explain/not abandon them/ to keep up the good fight “
Weirder are the posts that suggest the posters think he owes them something. Wow. Talk about scary groupies.
Apart from the implication that he has principals this would be his most accurate and reasoned blog.
Andrew , I salute you!
BTW have you noticed how many have posted on the site.
I suspect he won’t publish my comment asking how much it hurt when the editor took to his nuts with a cricket bat.
HAhahahahahahahaha! QI, in Sydney alone, gets more viewers than The Bolt Show, even discounting this weeks disasterous figures!
What a baby.
My heart is breaking.
Young Jeremy (Sear)
Bellistner @22 is hiding the decline.
Listening to Bolt on Ben Fordham’s show from yesterday it’s clear the man really does think he can say anything and get away with it.
The accusations made against the Prime Minister in Milne’s column were false. Bolt himself said the Prime Minister has done nothing wrong and is not being accused of any wrongdoing and if she was he wouldn’t believe it. Yet somehow all this was going to lead to Gillard resigning – for poor judgement, apparently.
Only in the tiniest, most morally bankrupt, ethically corrupt, intellectually impoverished of minds does smearing a Prime Minister with false rumour and fabricated innuendo equate to holding her to account and asking legitimate questions.
Young Jeremy has to be a piss-take.
Three Facts.1:Bolt: A tip on something that may force Gillard to resign”. It began: ”On Monday, I’m tipping, a witness with a statutory declaration will come forward and implicate Julia Gillard directly in another scandal involving the misuse of union funds.” 2.Milne submits an article in the Australian opinion 3.Gillards office contacts Mr Hartigan re will article be published was assured there were no such plans. 1 Question will there be a Private Investigation into these events by News Limited? 2 Question what was the role of the tooth fairy in these events?
Bolt’s empire is crumbling.

That Young Jeremy thing does sound a lot like the sort of sarcastic thing I’d put on there… I’m actually sad to say it wasn’t me.
But lol.

He didn’t apparently, although I think he was quite happy to give that impression. I believe he was employed by the Australian Public Service in the PM’s press department.
Make that @39 sorry.
At least one of us was not trying to be a smart arse!
GG @40
Can’t you see there is no decline (and indeed, an increase!) from Week 33 – 35?
Typical lying lefties, taking the *whole* thing instead of just bits of it!
what got me in the post is
Precisely what is is he sorry for? Either
a) his false, bankrupt earlier post (or posts pick one) or
b) to his ‘fans’ for not being able to continue..
What got me in the post was
It’s a bit more than a full stop, but not quite an ellipsis. It’s almost as if he’d said something else but then hit the backspace on it before posting.
