Intellectual dishonesty is pure poison – A Crikey weblog

Cut and Paste Trophy – February 8

The arrival of the new Cut & Paste Trophy thread hints at something wonderful: that a new podcast has been recorded and it’s time to start collecting entries for the next one.

PS – for those new to Pure Poison:

What is the Cut & Paste Trophy?

It’s no longer really about News Ltd pretending that reader comments on the sites of other media organisations are “articles” which are equivalent, for whinging purposes, with actual articles written by actual staff.

It’s about asking whether moderators at major media sites should be filtering out more than just the merely defamatory. Are there other types of hateful, destructive comments that actually encourage more of the same? And, secondly, about wondering what the comments that a media site receives and chooses to publish tell us about just what kind of journalism they’re selling. What sort of ignorance do they appear to have fostered? Should they be concerned about their audience’s misunderstandings and what it says about how well they fulfill their role as disseminators of knowledge?

Apparently those messages have not yet been received. Let’s see if we can help these media companies out by pointing them to the most disturbing entries in the comments below.

The main thing that keeps her in her permanent delusional state is the power that lives in her. This power, of evil, has an intelligence it feeds her lies about herself in order that she keep on track tearing Australia apart. Gillard believes the lies she is fed she is as hypnotised she is living a false identity one fed into her to keep her exactly as this power wants her to be.

And Abbot SHOULD keep saying ‘‘carbon tax’‘.

Never, EVER forget that the lying redheaded bitch promised NO carbon tax just days before the election. It was a major factor in her being able to form Government and she reneged as soon as she had what she wanted. Abbott needs to remind the electorate that she will simply do the same thing again.

How did this get through the mods?

Cuppa@1 – that John Jay is constantly submitting stuff like that to Piers’s blog. I reckon i could crash this thread with the volume of simlar tripe that “nutbag” writes. Cue Bob Brown or Capt Col claiming its actually a left wing insurgent planting them… would be an extreme length to go to if it were true… and still begs the question why Piers let’s that crazy S&^T through in the first place.

    Marilyn,

What I still don’t understand is why they whine so incessantly about a tax they won’t be paying.

Well consider the stimulus that’s provoking them. Every consumer of mainstream media in Auschtralia is hostage to a vast right-wing echo chamber that includes hate radio, News Limited, Their ABC and commercial TV. ALL of these outlets are hostile to Labor/Greens and enthusiastic cheerers for the so-called “Liberals”. There IS NOT ONE mainstream media outlet that marches outside the lockstep. The amount of hate, disinformation and fear-mongering inundating public perceptions is of Orwellian proportions – and impact. That’s how millions of the population come to be dangerously brainwashed, and our democracy on a collision course with RW authoritarian fascism.

I dabbled my toe in this cesspool briefly last year, but in 2012 plan to concentrate on it more. If there is a more repulsive comments site than the 2GB webpage I am yet to find it. Reflects the standard of their broadcasting really. Clearly totally unmoderated, or alternatively, moderated by one of their screaming right-wing shock jocks who would be the only type to consider comments such as these normal. This week’s collective outraged vomit is sparked by a simple question, ‘Should Kevin Rudd be returned [sic] the Labor leadership?’….

We have the unsubstantiated and concerned (for AJ):

And didn't Rudd give a cheque for some hundreds of thousands of hard earned Aussie taxpayer funds to the terrorist group HAMAS. Yes, he did. And what else has he given away in the slush funds and borrowed funds now up to some $500 billion dollars in the red since Gillard knifed little Kevvie. And so the rot goes on and on unabated! It is little wonder ALan Jones' blood pressure is at breaking point!

Hell no ! That funny looking little Garden Gnome needs to stay overseas somewhere and take the poor excuse (not a real Prime Ministers left bootlace) of a Prime Minister with him. They are both hopeless and liars. If they are the best the Labor Party can do then there is no talent at all in their ranks. Better search some unions for a successor - well that's where all the commie Labor Politicians come from, right ? Australia is now stuffed thanks to those mongrels !

    Frank Rizzo, Sidaney

and finally, one that completely disproves Bob Brown’s comments earlier this week regarding sexism in some sections of Australian media:

Channel 9 just lost me this morning after Karl’s stupid performance. They just don’t get it do they? 70% of the population of Australia detest this corrupt Labor government and the biased TV and radio stations’ popularity is always going to be a reflection on the feelings of their viewers. I gave up on Channel 7 a few years ago when I could no longer stand the incessant giggling gerties and the egotistical Koshie. Good commentators don’t push their own agendas, but ask sensible balanced questions to present both sides of any argument.

Seems like I will just have to read Piers Akerman and Andrew Bolt whilst I listen to Ray Hadley and Alan Jones……. much more sensible option!

    The stupid, it burns!

Ok, I’m starting to reconsider my position. Maybe our schools ARE failing our children. Back to the basics, I think. People shouldn’t be able to leave school with such a failing grasp of spelling, punctuation and grammar. I’m willing to accept that not everyone will grasp the concept of a syllogism, or logic in general. But some of that writing is indistinguishable from parody.

More in the genre of the stupid: it burns

Santorum goes after Romney on energy, climate change

The article speaks for itself, but the last few comments underline whom people like Santorum and Romney are pitching at.

One of them, in addition to the usual stupidity adds a novel one:

let’s not forget that science gave us the pesticides and chemicals that contaminated the planet in the first place and made environmentalism necessary.

Hard to beat for stupidity. As offensive and misanthropic as stupidity almost always is, it’s hard not to admire novel concise multi-level stupidity for its form. That’s a form of creative art, surely?

Dear lord, keen eyed regulars! How’d you miss this one right in your very midst? Traipsing to far-flung regions of the crankosphere, when the most risible example of outright crankery is here, right in this very thread!
Check out Cuppa @ 9 to see what happens when you stray off your medication:

Well consider the stimulus that’s provoking them. Every consumer of mainstream media in Auschtralia is hostage to a vast right-wing echo chamber that includes hate radio, News Limited, Their ABC and commercial TV. That’s how millions of the population come to be dangerously brainwashed, and our democracy on a collision course with RW authoritarian fascism.

That’s right folks, you read it correctly: “Auschtralia”. Australia is now comparable to Nazi death camp, Auschwitz. This’d probably come as quite a surprise to the former guests thereof.
But moving on past the outright vile, we sail on into the sea of tin-foil-hat conspiracism. In case you didn’t already know the bulk of Australian media is all part of a vast right-wing “brainwashing” and “Orwellian disinformation” apparatus, inexorably leading us into “authoritarian fascism” (as oppossed to non-authoritarian fascism, presumably). You heard it here first.
Although, in fairness to Cuppa, the idea that our media is a sinister exercise in fascist, mass-mind manipulation probably seems eminently sensible to someone unhinged enough to make a comparison between Australia and death camps.

Dave and Jeremy, bring the trophy home.

You are being far too kind Andrew.

Marist Bros Ashgrove is in the Ashgrove electorate and he is there to get votes for Kate Jones and that is the only reason.

No mention of his time at Marist Bros Ashgrove is in his CV and I remember the I am a boy from Nambour High speech.

If I had a son at Marist Bros Ashgrove I would be incensed to have an old boy? addressing the students for possible political gain.

There seems to be a movement underway by the disciples of the dark side to extend the Blot Report.

“For heaven’s sake, extend the Bolt Report to one hour, please.”

“An hour with Bolt would have to be a ratings winner. Also, get Niki Sava and Piers Akerman on, always excellent and balanced comnentary. ”

“Better still, replace that left wing puff piece show “The Project” with Bolta 5 nights a week. ”

This is actually a great idea. Nothing could assure 10 of a better or more rapid ratings collapse. And Gina might have to buy an internety radio thingy to listen to MTR.
